So best prepare yourself by backing up your system files on a regular basis. • I had same problem ...

I had same problem a while back. Its because you have XP home. No problem though, you can install the backup utility from the windows cd (borrow one if you havent got one, licence key isn't an issue) or you can download it as I did. Can't remember were I got the download, but google it and you'll find it, it'll install to correct place automatically

  • Chose your C: ...

Chose your C: drive that should not be empty, you need to select the drive that has content. If you have another drive thats empty thats an area you would save you backups to.

  • if you have a virus ...

if you have a virus and you do a restore all you are doing is pushing the virus back to a earlier date when the date that you got the virus elapses again the the virus again will effect you PC. When backing up your system is more logical a Restore doesn't replace corrupted system files associated with viruses and apyware also adware. Advice though I would do a virus scan also a adware scan before backing up your system files so you are not backing up adware, spyware, and virus .dll files

  • The backup is not ...

The backup is not really meant for you to restore after you formatted the drive. If Windows crashed and you need to restore, you wouls try booting in SAFE Mode and doing a restore instead. If your going to reformat then your already restoring everything to defaults.
