O São Paulo veio animado para este jogo, uma vez que, 1 mês antes, tinha vencido a Supercopa, em dois jogos difíceis contra o ótimo time do Flamengo. O Milan seria o adversário a ser batido. Mesmo desfalcado de seus principais jogadores, o Milan ainda era um time de respeito.

Like Sao Paulo they lost several key players - Van Basten & Rijkaard - and at this point they were still reshuffling their team. I'm a Milan fan and remember this game. Sao Paulo had great players but was very very lucky. Every time Milan equalled Sao Paulo would find a lucky goal. The third goal was all ass and Milan had most of the play and most of the chances all the game.
