  • Dunno...show me ...

Dunno...show me another 14 year old who can lay down 7 tripples and do it with a well put together program. Exactly, you can't. I wasn't in the arena that night...but the crowded house didn't seem to mind the "tiny" jumps. Michelle Kwan was the only one to rock the house that night, period!

  • The commentator has ...

The commentator has it wrong at the end. If Kwan had been 2nd in the free she wins silver yes, but it is Bonaly who would have gotten nothing, not Bobek. Bobek being 1st in the short gauranteed her a medal as long as she beat Markova. If Bobek had stayed 3rd in the free, with Kwan 4th, she would win silver. Bobek was ahead of Bonaly at that point, and would have stayed so if Kwan had not come between them. So if Kwan had come 2nd in the free, Bobek would win bronze, and Bonaly nothing.

  • I would have also. ...

I would have also. Unfortunately most of the judges overscored Bonaly (as usual) so it would have been hard to fit Kwan in between Chen and Bonaly in the freeskate to make this happen.

  • Surya could never ...

Surya could never truly skate. Her and her mother just didnt get the problem and never really addressed it.

  • While Surya had ...

While Surya had more speed and higher jumps than Michelle, Michelle had better edges and fluidity in her skating.

  • I would too. Surya ...

I would too. Surya should not keep getting full credit for her badly cheated triple- triples those times she does them that way. Here she did two triples-triples with a badly cheated 2nd jump and got full credit on the technical mark by the judges. That is what gave her the silver. I would have Bonaly only 3rd in the long which would have put both Kwan and Bobek on the podium over her overall.

  • Michelle had deeper ...

Michelle had deeper edges and more flow over the ice and less posing in her choreography than Surya.

  • She was 3rd place ...

She was 3rd place in the free skate but because Nicole Bobek won the short that gave Bobek the bronze overall over Kwan. That actually cost Bobek the silver to Bonaly too. I dont disagree with the judging much in this instance. Kwan should have been 4th in the short over Surya, but she still would have been 4th overall and Bonaly silver overall with the same free skate placings which were correct IMO. Kwan deserved to be over Bonaly in the short, Bobek in the free, but still 4th overall.

  • I wouldnt give her ...

I wouldnt give her the gold at all. Lu Chen was the clear winner who combined beautiful artistry and very good technical merit. Kwan and Bonaly were superior to Chen technically in their performances here, but did not come close to her stunning artistry. It was a shame Bobek could not have skate cleanly after her triple lutz-triple toe as she would have been the clear winner otherwise. As it was Chen was the clear winner though, and it would have been a travesty had someone else won.

  • I guess that ...

I guess that depends if you fully credit Bonaly's two cheated triple-triples. I wouldnt, but since the judges always had in the past I guess the thinking along their lines would be they do, rightly or wrongly.

  • It was not ...

It was not technically the best of the night:

Bonaly- 7 triples, 2 triple-triples, huge impressive jumps

Kwan- 7 triples, 0 triple-triples, tiny baby jumps with no flow out of them

  • What was better ...

What was better about it then Bonaly? Bonaly technically was much better, 7 triples just like Kwan, hard triple-triples while Kwan had none, much bigger and stronger jumps then Kwan. Artistic both were poor.
