  • I have read a lot ...

I have read a lot about this crash in aviation literature. Almost all air crashes are caused by a combination of different factors, and this one is no exception. If there hadn't been fog on the runway, if they haven't had to divert to Tenerife because of the bomb in the other airport, if the ATC hadn't been inexperienced...don't just rely on this documentary to tell the whole, absolute truth.

  • Like I said, this ...

Like I said, this crash was not caused solely by the KLM pilot. You need to read about it in more detail. Back then, guidelines were sloppier and standards of competence in English for Spanish ATCs were lower. Don't blame it all on the KLM pilot.

  • The KLM pilot was ...

The KLM pilot was in a hurry to take off, but the ATC was not clear enough in his instructions, and the KLM pilot missed a crucial radio message because of interference. A lot of things caused this crash, and it wasn't just the KLM pilot's impatience.

a of mistakes were made yes, but it still keeps coming back to the main point. golden rule number one: if no clearance has been given, u NEVER take off. and that includes communication problems. Don't take off unless it's CLEAR very CLEAR!!

  • Yeah right, then ...

Yeah right, then who the hell instructed KLM 2 take off? They didn't have tower clearance!! It was clear whose mistake it was. Despite whatever the circumstances there were then; fog, bomb threat, bad ATC English (as if the Dutch spoke good English...hell), KLM pilot took off without clearance. It was that simple to figure it out. Unauthorized take off that led to fatal crash just because KLM Captain wanted to avoid putting a night in Canarias and saving tons of money for his KLM. My ass!

  • its not pan-am's ...

its not pan-am's fault at all or ATC (air traffic control) its the captain of the KLM's fault as he did not have permision to take off its that simple if he had waited to get permision the pan-am would have got off the runway and have been on the taxiway by then but no he was impationant and he caused the hole accerdent end of

  • both planes are at ...

both planes are at fault.pam-am should have stay put off the runway. because of the fog over the airport runway.klm should have asked for the clearing of the pam-am that was on the airport runway by pam-am by control tower.

  • Whats important to ...

Whats important to see, that even though this was an EXTREMELY tragic and horrible event, changes are made. Because of human error lessons are learned. Airlines now implement crew tactic and training to avoid hostile situations like the one created by the KLM pilot, rarely would that attitude last or go un-checked in todays airline industry.. I trust fully in my pilots, and if i felt ever that they would put me in a dangerous situation, i wouldn't be flying that day.
    Love from NWA

  • It's not the fault ...

It's not the fault of the KLM, because the guys in the ATC weren't very clear (because their english was really bad) and the Pan am didn't taxi right. So please, don't blame the Dutch.
