A340-600: Rejected Take-Off test
One of the tests to be undertaken for the certification of a new aircraft is the accelerate-stop with "maximum energy braking" test. This was undertaken for the A340-500/600 on February 12, 2002 in Istres using MSN360, the prototype aircraft.
This test, which is based on brakes already close to their wear limit, is always one of the last to be performed and it is not unusual for unexpected events to occur.
The test is in general a destructive test for the brakes, wheels and tyres, with occasionally some risk of local damage to the airplane.
In this particular instance the test proceded normally, with the target braking distance and brake energy levels being obtained during the deceleration.
However, several minutes after the aircraft had come to a stand, damage occurred to a number of wheels.
The cause of the wheel damage, which is consistent across affected wheels, has been identified as an insufficient margin in the design of the wheels to withstand the extreme heat transfer from the brakes and the associated increase in tyre pressure after the aircraft had stopped.
The results were reviewed with the component manufacturer and modifications defined. They consist in local reinforcement of the wheels and modifications to the thermal shield between the brake assembly and the wheel.
aha thank you bitch.
This bastard "balkanrasergoran" is the lousiest piece of s*** i have ever heard of.
go check his videos, you will all see what i was talking about.
I dont have to justify anything to some loser like you.
Il answer serious comments.
cheers from KJFK
congratulation and i think now is time for you to wake up and stop dreaming.
to fly a plane, you have to be adult and you are not.
Thank you for the info buddy. I fly airbus myself. Not the 340-600 , but the 343. I really liked your comment where you bring out the statistics-hope cjracer1000 reads it. We do agree, that Airbus/EADS are minimum same leveled in sales in the last decade, or even better, when not if.

It was lightly damaged and repaired within four hours by the building staff for another test run that was this time successfull. The brakes on the video were provided by an american company. The selected brakes are from german company :)

He is effectively interfering with the order as the procedure gives priority to the ground helpers, not the pilots ! As the pilots only have a video report, they can't see with smoke if flames are or not that big. You may not know it but an exploding tire can cut you in two pieces, and this is a very dangerous intervention...
By lothar2048 [Affiliate User] 1213734298 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveYou may consider that airbus is a consortium of many brands. We do have latecoere, Eurocopter with AS and EC class shoppers, ATR with very famous all around the world Turboprop airplanes, CASA with aviojet, AV8B plus Harrier, Dornier, ETC... Its a very big company named EADS that is selling about 45% of the airplane in this world. All the american companies (Boing, Northtrop, Mc Donnell, Lockeed, etc... ) are selling less than 22% of the sum... :)
By lothar2048 [Affiliate User] 1213733993 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveThis airplane is one of the biggest plane made just under the A380. It's a huge plane, but can land and take off from any actual airpoprt instead of the 380 that need special very long and large taxiing runway to take off and land.
By lothar2048 [Affiliate User] 1213732735 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveThis was a simple wheels test with blocked brakes at high speed V1 (150 MPH). This is not the tires that are burning but only the brakes that put fire to the rest, including carbon materials of the braking system. Every airplane builders are doing this. This is due to validation process...

By lothar2048 [Affiliate User] 1213732339 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removeand in the moment of fire, smoke and possible burn up of a brand new a340-600, the french guy says: ok guys, i am leaving..
The brave french again :-)
