First of all, The loudest race of the Trials by a huge margin! Second of all, Christian Smith is NOT from Oregon. He is a Kansan, born and raised. Now to the race: Oregon grown,Nick Symmonds wins the 800m final at the United States Track and Field Olympic Trials in 1:44.12 with Andrew Wheating of Oregon placing second. In third is a uprooted Kansan in an Oregon uniform, Christian Smith diving for his place on the USA Track and Field Team. GREAT RACE! And Christian Smith is from KANSAS, not Oregon! The NBC Sports crew is working in the booth with the great voice of Tom Hammond and the analysis and commentary by Ato Boldon and Lewis Johnson. Ed Eyestone, a former Olympian, also helps with the distance events and the great Dwight Stones handles the athlete interviews and the field events as only he can.

Yes, Christian Smith is not a born, raised Oregonian. But if you ask him, it was living and training in Track Town USA that got him to the Olympics.

  • Fantastic race. ...

Fantastic race. Nick Symmonds looking powerful in putting up a new personal record. Looks to be peaking at the right time! Wheating looking like a young phenom that has room to get better (which is scary). Christian Smith is a great story after surviving a burst appendix 1.5 years ago. Some serious desire in that dive.

    Best 800m I think I've seen.
