  • This commercial ...

This commercial does not represent the industry at all. Never will they take someone as banal and turn it into a beauty, it only illustrates what you can do with technology. In addition, adds sell an idea of perfection, which is what people wish to attend, they're only picturing what people want to see. So if you think that commercials convey wrong values, then look at yourself first. STOP THINKING THAT THIS COMMERCIAL REVEALS THE WHOLE DEAL ABOUT THE INDUSTRY, second guess yourselves.

  • You look between 00 ...

You look between 00:37 and 00:38, just before the womans picture is taken into a photoshop screen, and you will see a very beautiful woman. Anything after that is gross beyond belief.

BUT, the most beautiful woman in this whole segment is seen at 00:15.

  • Totally agree!, but ...

Totally agree!, but the problem is that some people dont have that same self-esteem, they feel ugly, and all this industry says "the only solution es plastic surgury and makeup", i dont think so.

That's why a i love this commercial, what is real beauty and where is it?

  • It's almost an ...

It's almost an inverse of the Western beleif of tanned equalling athletic and fit, whereas pale equals nerdy and workaholic.

you could use the same argument against companies making tanning products telling pale-skinned people they aren't beautiful enough.

in my opinion, the whole fashion industry S**ks majorly, so just wear what you want and look how you want, the important thing is feeling good about yourself. =]

    xx

  • actually i believe ...

actually i believe face whitening creams such as the one you are talking about aren't aimed at 'dark-skinned women' (e.g. people of African/Cariibean descent etc) but more to an Asian demographic.

In metropolitan areas of asia the image of lightened skin has connotations of white-collar occupations (i.e. jobs out of the sun, meaning your skin doesn't tan), whereas a tan implies you have more of a peasant-working-in-the-fields lifestyle.

  • So, the latest ...

So, the latest reason for me to spend wads of my hard-earned cash at the drug store is Dove's supposed concern for my self-esteem. Whatever works for them, right?

Of course Dove did not make this so all the other brands in the world. But who cares? Its their campaign that matters and the significance of it.

Dove didn't make this. The advertising agency Ogilvy & Mather Toronto did for Dove. This ad just won the Cannes Lion best ad award (its like the Grammy of the adversiting world).

  • Of course they are ...

Of course they are still a company. They have products, and it's their responsibility to try to sell the products. That part is a given for any company.

What's so admirable about Dove is the way in which they go about trying to sell things. Instead of showing false beauty or reducing women to sex objects, they point out that you can be beautiful without trying to look like some false standard that hardly exists.

i agree, this is a very good commercial. finally the fu*ked up idea of beauty is being thought over. it's still a long way before you you don't have to stare yourself to be considered beautiful again.
