  • more batteries

You should use 5 ni-mh batteries to get 6V. You are only getting 4.8V so the lantern won't be as bright.

  • Great idea, I think ...

Great idea, I think I would try to get 4 of
the largest rechargeables in there as to increase recharge periods.

I don't think I would try 4 AA packs in paralel to 4x4 packs in series, because the
weaker AA's would tend to be charged by the stronger ones, creating a inefficient mess.

But 4 of the bigest 1.5V batteries sounds interesting, anyway enough of my rambling.

    Interesting Video !

  • For additional ...

For additional benefits, there are LED replacements for the 6v incandescent bulbs. That increased efficiency will make the converted model run much longer on a recharge!

  • I like your idea, ...

I like your idea, but I have to point out that 4 rechargeable AA batteries will only have a voltage of 4.8 since they are I think universally 1.2 each. You'd really need 5 in a pack to get 6 volts

  • I have no doubt ...

I have no doubt that this would work but it seems like a lot of effort to do this when you can get an adaptor that takes 4 Ds and fits into the flashlight just like the lantern battery. I actually have one of these adaptors which came with my Krypton Lumilight 4600 flashlight. I use 4 NiMH D batteries in this light. I keep it charged during the stormy seasons in case of power outtages.

  • Seems like this ...

Seems like this would make more sense with a quick trip to Radio Shack to get a couple of two cell C or D holders and ten seconds with a soldering iron to adapat it for more longevity. AAs don't last that long in a 6V flashlight.
