Great investigation. This is the way JFK, 9-11 should be investigated.

This fire shouldn't have to happen but it's more important, finding the real cause and prevent it from happening again in the future.

I'd call that investigator also a hero.

at 4:20 the plane shown is a Hawker Hunter not a Navy plane. With all the footage available I wish the brits could get it right.

I remember seeing this whole video during my Flight Desk fire fighting class at NAS Mayport. The whole time our instructor was pointing out the Don'ts of what went wrong. Because of this incident todays crews are much better trained to handle flight deck fires. If you are on a carrier, you are now Fire fighting qualed at some level.

elloy, all confined explosives are subject to "Thermal Initiation" (cook off) the point in which heat detonates the weapon. Those older bombs used on that tragic day on the Forrestal cooked off in less than 90 secs. The new munitions used these days will last much longer, between 5 - 10 mins before cook off.
