what if the mark didnt open the lock to put it on the locker yet. his key wouldnt open it and then the scam would fail.

Eh, if he comes back earlier than you expect, you have a bit of getaway time.. I think that's more valuable than a cheap padlock.

one flaw, why leave your lock when you can use it again later? swap it for the guys old lock and you don't lose any money at all

Or if it is a masterlock, simply just jammed it open and replace with another lock... either way, the security camera catches it all.

Why would they bother making it fake, this scam is easy. Takes like a second to swap the lock, if the guy saw him... he could say it was TV... if he got caught... he could say it was TV. There's not really any risk and they obviously give the guy the stuff back at the end anyway.

So setting it up would be pointless, plus you can tell the guy is not acting.
