With strength, dexterity, vitality, and luck maxed naturally (through using sources rather than materia), battles in the battle arena often go quick and easy. After all, when you consistently do 9999 damage with deathblow and with deathblow never missing (except on enemies that are otherwise hard to hit like "jumping" or that one starting with "mag" where physical attacks almost always miss - slash-all and morph-all all have the same success rate as deathblow).
I first show you the status of Cloud especially as he's my most powerful (not by much though). Magic is only maxed due to materia, not from sources. The "ribbon" blocks everything except instant death, slow, and stop. It seems strange how these are oddly left out.
A brief look at the equipment follows. To me, weapon attack power makes no difference (due to the maxed strength) so I focus mostly toward materia slots and somewhat toward accuracy. After all, the initial equip for Cloud is equally powerful to his "apocalypse" sword in terms of damage dealt (not accuracy or materia slots, however).
After the equipment comes the materia setup. Since materia doesn't develop here, I tend to use more master materia here than I normally would, along with avoiding "junk". The most important materia is the "master command" joined with an "HP absorb" and an "MP absorb". This way, every time I use deathblow, I both restore HP and MP. That is, until the "support" or "command" materia is disabled.
After the materia setup (and showing why Vincent's HP and MP are odd like that - I'm trying to develop his limits, particularly getting the second in the group) comes my configuration settings. With the dexterity maxed, which also makes it hard to hit Cloud with physical attacks (you'll notice this), the slowest battle speed offers the best results and I don't have to wait long at all, but the enemies do. I also use "active" mode, which adds to the challenge.
Two rounds of 8 full battles each, the second being the fastest, follow. At the start of a battle, my first priority is casting both haste and Mbarrier. Because Cloud's dexterity is maxed, his evasion is very extreme making him hard to hit. He's, however, vulnerable to magic attacks so Mbarrier is useful, though not essential. Haste lasts throughout the entire battle until something puts "slow" on Cloud. For the most part, the enemies barely get a chance to do anything, thanks to the maxed dexterity and my swiftness for getting to the "D. blow" option.
When I get certain enemies like the one you steal carob nuts from (it starts with a "V"), I make use of the opportunity, if the handicaps have not gotten there. The same applies to morphables, particularly the "serpent" that I haven't seen in the field yet (along with ochu or whatever that green thing is (no, not malboro)).
"After the materia setup (and showing why Vincent's HP and MP are odd like that - I'm trying to develop his limits, particularly getting the second in the group)"
What do you mean getting the second in the group?
Max the dexterity - done by morphing "poodler". Haste doubles the fill rate. You're watching this with the battle speed at the slowest setting possible, if that says anything. Limit+haste+max battle speed+max dexterity = bar fills in 2 frames (1/30 second)!

OnyonKnight: Hey, buddy. I know that there is a function in this game that makes everything that blocks Slow block Haste also, so I think it was intently left out to make the accessory better. Even in other Final Fantasies it seems Ribbon never blocks those you mentioned.
Only what you need is plenty counter attacks, those finishes all monsters in arena in one turn.

Try with counter+double cut, double cut+added cut, mime+hp absorb, double cut+mp absorb, and many hp plus and 1 mp plus, and finish with wall and haste for support. You can kill the enemies too easy, and if your limit gauge bar is full, cast in first turn and only do mime. Very quickly and funny

But, note the MP being over 1600. This is because I have a special materia equipped on him that allows for this. I did it so I can get his limits developed quickly, the second in a group mainly, of which he apparently doesn't have (unlike others like Cloud or Yuffie). Watch my "special chocobo-only areas" video for details on where this special materia is at.

By ulillillia [Affiliate User] 1215630105 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removeyeah, you get them when you win, too. thats waht i dont get. they dont sell for much, and you cant like trade them for anything better. what the hell?
By gabedom420 [Affiliate User] 1215558929 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveThe only time I use D.blow is if I dont have omnislash ready and mime. If your skills are maxed, you should have omnislash, if your doing Battle arena you probably have your gold chocobo (unless you like losing your mind hearing the gold saucer music!) and should have gone to all the caves. Just a alternative method, use omnislash and mime it through the match, and if you break command materia or all of it at the end, you do max damage and can kill the ghost ship before he kicks you.
By Sephiroth36977 [Affiliate User] 1215556213 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveI heard that the more tissues you have the harder the battles become (more likely that tonberry comes at round 8, ghost ship kills you with the eject attck) but I dont know if that was a rumor or not. I think it was just a joke by square, when you lose you get a tissue (now go to your corner and cry), but it gives them to you when you win as well.
By Sephiroth36977 [Affiliate User] 1215555769 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveI'd like to know myself. I just sell all but one, but at one gil a piece, why bother when mastering all materia (especially the number I have) is far, far faster, over a million times faster. Even the strategy guide is useless for this.
