I'm glad you enjoyed the lessons. The Magic Clear medium is available through Alexander Art 1(800)896-4630. Another one to try would be Bob Ross Liquid Clear, although I don't like that brand and never use it, personally. It's too "sticky". Having said that, there are dozens of "clear" oil painting mediums on the market, right at your local art supply store.
"Liquin" is a great one. All that's needed is something to lightly lubricate the canvas to facilitate the application of the oil paints.

First off - I love your videos. And so far I've made all the mistakes that you said beginners often make :) I just started oil painting not too long ago and I've never heard of this magic clear medium. I'm thinking this waterfall technique won't work without it. Is there a substitute I can use?

No, I use "odorless mineral spirits". Turpentine is very noxious and I never use it.
Mineral spirits ( paint thinner ) make a great brush cleaning fluid, as well.
This thinning method works great for a Wet-on Wet technique, but if you are working in stages and coming back to work on a painting when it's dry, you should use a medium which contains some "oil" in it. Such as Linseed oil, or any of the commercial mediums. It make for better adhesion of the paint layers.

    Hi Beth,
You have no idea how many times scenes like this HAVE been class projects. lol
I've done a million of 'em. They're always popular subject matter though, and you can design them so many different ways, they never really become boring.

I'm glad you found my clips to be helpful. I've been teaching for many years now, so I know what works for my students and what doesn't. I see pupils making the same types of errors, so I can cut to the chase and explain how to avoid those mistakes.
Please check out my DVD's and my website.
