im wondering why they weren't wearing gloves and googles? a bit of protective equipment for such (more or less) dangerous professions is a must, i'd say.

  • The only time it ...

The only time it hurts is when you don't have the leg straps in their proper place (lol) and the landing always hurts. That can make for a long trip to the ground with your family jewels caught up in them.

  • Gee is that why you ...

Gee is that why you wouldnt have the balls to do it? I have been doing it since I was 19 and I am 43 years old now..I have one jump injury and have been never been treed! That's a Hollywood jump..Not a combat one you would see rucks and weapons carriers on those troops and this is a 56 second drop zone.
You will feel the jerk when the chute is deployed! After that you enjoy the ride and get ready to do a proper plf. And its a hell of a lot safer than driving on a freeway.

  • No, it's like ...

No, it's like riding a big slippery dip when you exit the door. Military staticline chutes descend alot faster than freefall chutes at around 4-7 metres a second depending on weight, so it's usually the landing that hurts.

The good old days... You dont know what you have till its gone.. being in the airborne infantry was one of the best days, even though you complain when you're in, its really an awesome experience. Just being one of the guys. Being a civilian is alot harder than being in the army. Especially in NYC. 11B! Hoahh!!

  • Just to be an old ...

Just to be an old ass, I have to say a real peacetime jump is a C-130, lots of turbulence, and pitch black darkness...For S**ts and giggles we can throw in rookie Air National Guard pilots. A good ole fashioned 28 second DZ only adds to the excitement. out of 15 birds, ride on the last 8....Talk about fun!

  • All about thermal ...

All about thermal energy from the ground...I'm not a large person, and many jumps I did I stayed up a long time. But, those cold January jumps, I would swear that I never had a chute! Heat rises.

  • Actually, from the ...

Actually, from the moment you step out you can feel the chute coming out of the pack tray. If you are paying attention, and there is a problem you will know it before 4000...Never happened to me, but you kinda know when things are going O.K., a total usually involves a cut static line. Somewhere between 2.5 and 3 I would have to pull and drop. Like I said, havn't been there, but.
