An entire functional heart was created using a heart 'shell' and stem cells. This has been done in the rat & pig, with hopes of using a pig's heart 'shell' for people. Livers, kidneys, and pancreas (much harder) are in the works.

They "injected the empty sac with heart cells from newborn rats. Within days, the cells had multiplied to flesh out the heart, which began beating on its own.

"We've taken organs from cadavers, removed all the cells, put cells back in and been able to reanimate what was previously a dead organ," said molecular biologist Doris Taylor, director of the Center for Cardiovascular Repair at the University of Minnesota.

"What that means, we hope, is that one day if you need a new organ, we'll be able to take your cells, transplant them into this framework or scaffold and build you an organ that works for you," she said.

Faitm, people like you--the religious ones--are desperate to get into the adventure of mankind; and you have been reduced to commentators. Science does; and you watch. That is how it is going to be from now on, buddy. Enjoy the drubbing!

Faithm, I quite realise your argument about not using foetuses in research. The truth is that your religion is a crutch, and all religions have been crutches for humanity. But now they are going out. Science will find a way that will involve no killing, and the wonders of science will keep on piling till you have nothing left to say. Buddy, religion is persona non grata, and the sooner you realise it the better.

  • From my ...

From my understanding of this experiment, and I've seen it in person and spoken with the scientists responsible for it, the ultimate goal is for the actual heart recipient to donate the cells that will cover the pig heart frame work. In doing so they would create an organ that the human body is less likely to reject. The heart is transplanted into the body and, over time, natural cell replacement would replace even the scaffolding making the organ a 100% match for the recipient. It's amazing.

but its natural function for our brain to do that, just like saying its natural function for scientists to take cells from embyros its all simply human nature, embryos are potential humans so are the cells that they take away from a patient in stem cell recearch

  • They aren't making ...

They aren't making something that would grow into a human if given the proper conditions, they're making basic cells with your own genetic material. Adult stem cells are used every day in the body for standard repairs. We aren't killing a child every time our body takes one from the brain stem or bones to repair something. Maybe explain it better. Message me? :)

  • Faithm Yes, they ...

    Faithm
Yes, they do take your own adult cells. They activate the same genes that were on when you were just conceived to make stem cells. What that means is that they are making clones of your own stem cells that you once were made of.
So by your believs, by doint it you would be KILLING your own clone(identical twin)

They used adult cells, we aren't against that. we are against child using fetus cells.
