Dennis the Menace
This was great! Another Nostalgia moment from my childhood! Hey, do you have the episode called 'Swiss Family Mitchell'?

It's like how religion or tradition are viewed as shackles but as a support to others.
The objective evil was already in plain sight (thinly veiled consumerism), I chose to see a subjective good in it.
Animation was more about product first and story second back then and things inversed a bit today.
Still some writers like Duane Capizzi and Jeffery Scott made themselves what they are today working on insipid drivel like this.
I'm more than aware of that.
What's even more ironic is that this can be compared to the videogame industry which I'm also passionate about.
(cont) However, the 80s were an improvement over the 70s. And in the middle of the decade, things began improving, and just kept getting better until the early '00s, I'd say. Now the TV animation industry is in another slump, although a very different kind of slump than the one of 25-30 years ago. (In some ways the opposite---cartoons back then thought kids were stupid; now they teach kids to be irony-drenched cynics before they're old enough to know what they're supposed to be ironic about! :)

"What I saw the animation industry having the most freedom and the most power over children's entertainment."
True enough, but the real question is, who had the REAL "freedom", because who had "control" over the animators? And the sad answer to that was toy company suits, and/or very, very insipid network executives who never had a creative thought in their lives.
Cartoons in the 80s may have indeed flowed like water, but it was stale, grimy water, polluted with restrictions.
Such a confusing decade we came from.
We're told constantly that our generation of cartoons sucked the most ass due to commercialism being the objective.
I see that. However, I can't deny watching a toon from this very era tugs at my heartstrings. They'd call this "nostalgia" I'm sure.
What I saw the animation industry having the most freedom and the most power over children's entertainment.
There was a lot of bullcrap of the era but the cartoons flowed like water and I cherished it.
