Inspirational Quotes of Wisdom,
Deep Thoughts & Meaningful Quotations from Famous Wise Men

Albert Einstein:
A human being is a part of the whole called by us universe, a part limited in time and space. He experiences himself, his thoughts and feeling as something separated from the rest, a kind of optical delusion of his consciousness. This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and to affection for a few persons nearest to us. Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty.

Albert Einstein:
Great ideas often receive violent opposition from mediocre minds.

Plato:
Bodily exercise, when compulsory, does no harm to the body; but knowledge which is acquired under compulsion obtains no hold on the mind.

Do not speak unless you can improve on silence.
Buddhist proverb

Mohandas K. Gandhi:
It is unwise to be too sure of one's own wisdom. It is healthy to be reminded that the strongest might weaken and the wisest might err.

Ralph Waldo Emerson:
Great are they who see that spiritual is stronger than any material force, that thoughts rule the world.

Leonardo da Vinci:
Anyone who conducts an argument by appealing to authority is not using his intelligence; he is just using his memory.

Christopher Morley:
There is no squabbling so violent as that between people who accepted an idea yesterday and those who will accept the same idea tomorrow.

Fyodor Dostoyevsky:
Love the animals, love the plants, love everything. If you love everything, you will perceive the divine mystery in things. Once you perceive it, you will begin to comprehend it better every day. And you will come at last to love the whole world with an all-embracing love.

  • it means by opening ...

it means by opening your mouth, you are further illustrating how stupid you are. shut up, and don't dig a bigger hole for yourself. (i don't mean you, i'm explaining the quote) basically by opening your mouth and trying to defend yourself, you make an even bigger fool of yourself.

  • Or you could not be ...

Or you could not be fearul of what other people think about you, and therefore not worry about being wrong. A person who never contradicts themselves is surely not growing.

    Cheers!

  • CheddarxCheese, I ...

CheddarxCheese, I think the quote (It's better to remain silent...) is referring to the benefit of doubt. For instance, similarly a person may be suspected of a crime. The person may plead the fifth and refuse to answer a question, if the response could possibly form self-incriminating evidence. Without evidence a person will not be convicted of a crime, as he will be given the benefit of doubt.

  • People that are ...

People that are really certain about what they know don't feel compelled to talk about it necessarily. People that are uncertain spend an awful lot of time trying to be right by make other people wrong. In other words, if you don't know what you talking about, STFU. If you open your mouth people will know you don't know what your talking about it.
