At first I was confused. But now I completely understand where he is coming from. Jerusalem was just as asleep as Bethlehem was! Hope that answers everything for ya'll as it did for me. :)

I FOUND THE ANSWER!!! (woot.)
I was looking through my copy of the book Lifestories by Mark Hall, when I saw "While You Were Sleeping" in one of the chapters. (The way the book is set up he pretty much just tells the story behind every song...)

FIRST I want to ask you to look up in your bible the verses Micah 5:2 and Mattew 25:5....

Actually, the second verse was about Jerusalem, not Bethlehem; so it has changed, quite dramatically actually.

That could very well be the case; I was thinking about it last night and since Bethlehem is still mentioned, my guess is invalid.

yes, it has been changed. I thought it was only to have another/better version of it for Christmas... I'm not sure...

Wow. Verse 2 has been changed dramatically from its original version; they must have offended some people in Bethlehem. The original was better IMO.
