By slapdashbr [Affiliate User] 1225606077 Reply Spam [+1] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveI'm no pilot, but to my eye a better conclusion would be "the reckless pilot almost killed more than 100 people." I'm sure that's how the airline that fired this guy felt.
He wasn't set up properly to land, so he should have gone around without pounding into the runway. He could always try again or go to another airport. An airliner should almost always land with enough fuel to do either of those.
Instead, to avoid admitting they he couldn't safely land the plane on his first try, he tried to land it anyway. The fact he didn't dig his left wing into the ground hard enough to turn that plane into a burning clump of debris tumbling down the runway was nothing more than luck, not talent. If he was an even worse pilot, he might not have gotten back into the air, but a good pilot would not have attempted the landing, flown a better approach in unfavorable conditions or gone around safely when he realized that he wasn't oriented correctly to land.
I'll leave it to others (pilots) to describe exactly what this guy did wrong to get himself in such an untenable position, but the main point is that he should never have touched his wheels to the runway under these circumstances.
THE VOICE OF REASON! :)

By 65CA [Affiliate User] 1225940073 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removewhy do people act like its easy to fly a plane? people must of been pretty scared on that plane when it had to re-take off.

By GottOfAim [Affiliate User] 1225692011 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveIm a pilot for united and this stuff us hard. i mean tying to land with 35mph winds coming at you? This pilot is very talented. I can also land in this kind of weather, very difficult though.

I mean, even with expertise and skill, things like that can fail miserably and when having 150 passengers or so, I'd consider it being irresponsible to take the risk."
You have to land *eventually*. Can't stay up in the air to wait for your fuel to run out now can you...
Hell F**king yes that were some awesome manuevres there, almost makes me feel proud
