Shooting a Ruger Mini 14 Rifle

In my 580 seires ruger mini14 manual it states that: it is designed to use "either standardized U.S. military,or factory loaded sporting .223(5.56mm) cartridges manufactured in accordance with us industry practice"

Mine is a newer mini14 but I think they all are designed to shoot 5.56. Mine does according to my manual^^

You should see the target! She's a really good shoot. This was her first time shooting this weapon.

my new savage bolt action .270 with the heavy barrel has a very tight grouping at 100,5 within about an inch of each other...id recomend it if your into not needing an immediate 2nd round. roughly 950 bones with decent optics

can you use 5.56 nato on this gun? I got lots lying at home, I know they look the same as .223 are they really just the same bullet?

By the way, I should tell you that I just picked up a Remington 700 SPS Buckmasters edition 30-06 and I love it. I have the Nikon Buckmasters 3-9x40 scope on it and I couldn't be more happy with the quality and accuracy. You may want to check one of these out as well.I've found Federal ammo for it for under $10 per 20 rounds!

I've always been happy with the .223 personally, but it never hurts to try as many different types of rounds as well as weapons.

ok, iv asked this question a few times but get differant answers. the question is: which is the better round to choose from when buying a mini14 from ruger? a .223, 6.8 mm, or a 7.62/39 mm?
