While I do not deny genetics plays a role in developing Type 1 diabetes mellitus, I strongly believe and suggest both type 1 and type 2 diabetes mellitus are caused by diets. All carbohydrates except fibers are absorbed to become blood sugars. Proteins can be broken down and converted into blood glucose, so called "catabolism." Fats can be broken down to glycerol and fatty acids. The fatty acids with even number of carbons can be converted into blood glucose. I hear you. I was diagnosed only two weeks ago. Was very pissed off, seeing how I didn't eat garbage foods. I drank myself to diabetes. It is alright now though. I take glipizide and metformin morning and night.
