done it for years, if you can't take it, don't do it, or at least don't give the bs about 'higher consciousness through harder contact'. either go out there protected or not, but spare the machismo.

  • why the gloves DBs, ...

why the gloves DBs, don't protect your hands either, let it be, deal with the pain of a strick. Use goggles for the eyes if you must, but no need for a helmet, get your consciousness higher with MORE contact.

  • it teaches you to ...

it teaches you to respect the stick this way haha. I personally don't do live stick thinass helmet, I personally, use ever so slightly padded sticks, a thicker helmet and the gloves, still get injured but if you love it enough, theres nothing thatll make you stop training haha. But these guys need to stop moving so 2 dementionally, they go forward and back not side to side... seems better to use angles in my opinion.

  • After some real ...

After some real stick training and a few injuries, I ask myself: is it worth it? Any opponent will behave differently without a mask on. No more blazing attacks and daring defense! What's the point then? You're left with your ill-conditioned and injured body...

  • I do stick sparring ...

I do stick sparring all the time and never had the need to use a real stick against an unprotected body. It sounds cools but I like to train without injury.

Training where you get injured thus stopping your training for weeks or months............Is that good?

Can you develope the same skills while using soft sticks and more gear?...

    Hmmmmmmmmm...it makes one wonder.

Don't get me wrong...Marc Denny is the real deal. I just question getting injured while training...

I know you can take this to the same level without the injuries...

that is the key to marial arts. Concentration under stress, seeing clearly in dire circumstances. I give it to the dog brothers though, tough guys. if it came down to a random streetfight...i think they would do ok.

I saw this video a long time ago...it's got to be the lamest things I've ever seen.
Dog Brothers are legends, hard as nails and they've really taken stick fighting to the next level...but this video, it's just so fucking lame.
I mean, the first 15 seconds makes them look like the biggest yuppies on Earth.

  • It would help, but ...

It would help, but it ain't the be all end all. Limited targeting, stop and start action, extra protective gear. It's a sport meant to mimic a sword battle, so one cuts all you really need, but it's still the point sparring of the weapons world.

so you're saying that kendo training in no way could help? you obviously have never practiced kendo then. besides, i have taken more than just kendo.

  • Kendo is an insult ...

Kendo is an insult to full contact weapon arts. The Shinai is meant to represent a sword, so one hit's all that's needed. Add that with the limitations on target area. You can't compare that to the beating you have to take in a dog brothers match.
