Perhaps 'For A Few Dollars More' might be a glaring omission from a "greatest hits" as difficult to compile as "a masterpiece" is to appoint, given that Morricone has written more film scores than others here combined. This is a very Anglo-centric selection. Do not overlook 'El Greco', 'Battle of Algiers', 'Guns for San Sebastian', 'The Sicilian Clan', 'Queimada', 'The Red Tent', 'Sacco and Vanzetti', 'La Califfa', 'Giordano Bruno', 'My Name is Nobody' and so many more...

"Once Upon a Time in America" was his masterpiece.

I am a very big admirer of The Thing'score, but I must to say than I prefer a lot more the themes of the movie than the other ones non used by John Carpenter like the one who is near of Fantasia Sorcerer apprentice dance with lot of staccatos. In the more classical Morricone style, Mission to Mars has some rather good moments too.

You forgot to add my two favorite ones, U-Turn and State of Grace!

I'm absolutely in LOVE in The Mission soundtrack. ;]

Mission to Mars is a masterpiece and very different from his other scores. He'll be 80 this year! Still composing:)

I love the music soundtracks of Ennio Morricone especially for the movies The Good, The Bad and the Ugly and one of my all time favorite films Once Upon a Time in the West.

Oh this is MAGNIFICENT! I've discovered The Mission and Once Upon A Time In America thanks to figure skating (in fact if I see another skater use The Mission I'll scream, as much as I adore its music, few do it justice on the ice!) and these performances inspired me to get the actual scores. Also, my father doesn't really pay attention to film scores, yet he owns The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly. After hearing sections of it, I can see why! It's one of the best scores I've ever heard!

I wish I had a tenth of this guys genius!. you must be nuts!.

The Thing soundtrack, worst of all time? That is a travesty, it's one of the greatest horror soundtracks ever.

Whats wrong with The Thing? :S I like it... And Morricone has put out some of the best film themes ever, like The Good The Bad and the Ugly, Once Upon a time in America, and Cinema Paradiso!!!

The Good, the bad and the ugly is an all time classic theme...who hasnt heard it? And I like the Thing score...
