Continuation of the tragic Swiss Air crash.
230 tons of fuel? is this not the total wight of the jet? but in this bad situation : the swiss pilots are very professional...
By MoebiusGer [Affiliate User] 1212659729 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveI agree. Emergency or problem on board =LAND, cabin ready or not just make an announcement and bring the f$%& thing down. Too bad if the cabin or people are uncomfortable or food is flying around, you're still ALIVE! McDonnell Douglas is gay, they have the worst safety records as an aircraft manufacturer. I am not happy that they merged with boeing & their faulty aircraft designs too. MD is always falling out of the sky. It is amazing how many MD planes are part of air crash investigation!!
By chrismatee [Affiliate User] 1212502860 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removethese pilots are completely retarded. smoke = get down NOW!!! the Pilot at around the 1:00 minute mark trying to justify going to Boston b/c the pilot is "familar" w/ the airport and he can have a SwissAir mechanic is just dumb.
also, requesting more time to level off altitude to get the cabin in order = incompetent.
way to go pilots, just killed 215 people.
Nice to know commercial aircraft dump caustic, flammable and poison jet fuel over populated areas and the ocean. But I guess it's okay since its routine.

By lou18is [Affiliate User] 1210279543 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removebut i believe airliner are all very safe.most of the crews decide the right things, because they dont fall from the sky,we dont hear from them.this particular crew handled too late of the problem.i still love and trust planes as before.
By paganviodio [Affiliate User] 1209043093 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Remove...this 45 minutes would probably rescue them,if they would intend to land.i guess they handled it too late, and the plane crashed.this is what i think about all this.shame...many people has died.why d´you fly further ifi you didnt identify the source of the fire,d´you wait that the plane explode to handle against it or what?
By paganviodio [Affiliate User] 1209042369 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removei dont know how how it is done by air traffic law,but if you dont know where the fire comes from, you shouldnt fly further.because you see SMOKE in the cockpit, you dont see every day smoke in the cockpit,in the first part it is said they flew a 45 minutes without doing anything,AND knowing that there was smoke.
By paganviodio [Affiliate User] 1209042129 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removeas it came out with the smoke, they had to handle it seriously, actually any smoke in an aircraft, wouldnt be tolerate at all if its not identified clearly, and seen from where it is coming.if you prepare to across atlantic, there is no service on the way.
By paganviodio [Affiliate User] 1209041945 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveActually, many aircraft have had to dump fuel because of minor and major situations, and only a few have crashed. They dump a certain amount of fuel so that they will have enough on the approach. If a plane that has a lot of fuel on board before landing does not dump, they risk breaking up on landing.

By flamebroil [Affiliate User] 1207585723 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveAirline travel is getting alot safer, Yes planes are being pushed to the max For instance Thomsonfly will use there 757's 17 hours a day, But the planes nowadays are designed to be pushed to the max, and with todays technology this is possible. Airplanes are designed to run for at least 15 hours a day, And maintanace is stricter then ever before. aircraft can have a life span upto 90,000 flying hours, but with good maintenece we can achive 100,000 flyings + more.
Airtravel is the safest yet.
Airline travel is not getting safer. The planes are now being pushed into service sooner and with longer intervals of maintenance. The FAA is in the pockets of the airline industry and fail to do their jobs as efficiently as they should. Older planes are pushed into longer flying times and bogus parts are being pirated onto planes. This doesn't sound safe to me.

FATALITIES. F-A-T-A-L-I-T-I-E-S.
I didn't mention hull loss.
American Airlines ALONE has over a thousand fatalities, compared to my countries airline, which is, *gasp* 0.
I know what airline I'll be flying, thanks.
The US had not 1 air accident fatality last year. In addition, in the global manufacturing systems that both Boeing and Airbus use, they do their design work and manufacturing all across the globe. It's not just American technology at Boeing. Airbus isn't just French technology--duh!
By BeaversAreInsane [Affiliate User] 1207324873 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveAfrica has 4.3 hull losses per million flights
Latin America and the carribean has 1.8
Asia and Pacific has .67
and the US is at a whopping .49 hull losses per million flights.
The US has the highest amount of flights per day with the lowest % of hull losses. So AUTHORESS the US does not have the most accidents and fatalities out of the entire world.

ARSENIUMN666 ANDORRA doesn't even have a friggn airport... Lets be intellectually honest here ARESEIUM.... The US has the LEAST amount of accidents and fatalities WORLD WIDE for aircraft. Get an airport then start talkn.

I must not be too wrong...
Helifax was the cloest airport, at least one with a runway long enough.
