I agree. Emergency or problem on board =LAND, cabin ready or not just make an announcement and bring the f$%& thing down. Too bad if the cabin or people are uncomfortable or food is flying around, you're still ALIVE! McDonnell Douglas is gay, they have the worst safety records as an aircraft manufacturer. these pilots are completely retarded. smoke = get down NOW!!! the Pilot at around the 1:00 minute mark trying to justify going to Boston b/c the pilot is "familar" w/ the airport and he can have a SwissAir mechanic is just dumb.

but i believe airliner are all very safe.most of the crews decide the right things,because they dont fall from the sky,we dont hear from them.this particular crew handled too late of the problem.i still love and trust planes as before.

...this 45 minutes would probably rescue them,if they would intend to land.i guess they handled it too late,and the plane crashed.this is what i think about all this.shame...many people has died.why d´you fly further ifi you didnt identify the source of the fire,d´you wait that the plane explode to handle against it or what?

i dont know how how it is done by air traffic law,but if you dont know where the fire comes from,you shouldnt fly further.because you see SMOKE in the cockpit,you dont see every day smoke in the cockpit,in the first part it is said they flew a 45 minutes without doing anything,AND knowing that there was smoke.

as it came out with the smoke,they had to handle it seriously,actually any smoke in an aircraft,wouldnt be tolerate at all if its not identified clearly,and seen from where it is coming.if you prepare to across atlantic,there is no service on the way.

Actually, many aircraft have had to dump fuel because of minor and major situations, and only a few have crashed. They dump a certain amount of fuel so that they will have enough on the approach. If a plane that has a lot of fuel on board before landing does not dump, they risk breaking up on landing.

Airline travel is getting alot safer, Yes planes are being pushed to the max For instance Thomsonfly will use there 757's 17 hours a day, But the planes nowadays are designed to be pushed to the max, and with todays technology this is possible. Airplanes are designed to run for at least 15 hours a day, And maintanace is stricter then ever before. aircraft can have a life span upto 90,000 flying hours, but with good maintenece we can achive 100,000 flyings + more.

Airline travel is not getting safer. The planes are now being pushed into service sooner and with longer intervals of maintenance. The FAA is in the pockets of the airline industry and fail to do their jobs as efficiently as they should. Older planes are pushed into longer flying times and bogus parts are being pirated onto planes. This doesn't sound safe to me.
