  • In my opnion ...

In my opnion certainty leads to disappointment which leads to further questioning leading to certainty, and so on. Not as you say, until the truth is known - i doubt that "the truth" will ever be discovered and ultimately because our minds made it up. It doesn't exist as a universal object, nor an obect at all, rather as a personality attribute to be judged upon.

I am glad you feel that way, feel free to contact me at any time for further discussion on the matter. I would also add that I also still have much to learn and am currently taking up the study of Greek language as of yesterday in order to better familiarize myself. I would also add that this video is very flawed but can give some rough idea of what actually occurred. (E.G. Such as Nietschze did not like Plato, and never stated any Opinion on Socrates that I know of)

It's been very interesting speaking with you. I am new to greek history and philosophy, i'm currently making my way through platos dialogues, (represented by Benjamin Howett). It's been interesting because 1, clearly you have studied this area in depth, helping, 2, me to get an idea of plato/socrates persona using you as a medium.

  • I cannot say that ...

I cannot say that because Socrates was the manifestation of truth and as such is embodied in the highestest ideals and principles such as innocence and therefore could not have been guilty and was wrongly accussed. However, it was important and right of him to die for what is right and proper, and truth and not for a politically or relative and meaningless reality which his accusors were apart of.

  • There is said to be ...

There is said to be two types of thought, one is calculative as you have stated, the other meditative. In machines, only the first is employed, but in man, the true man, meditative is employed through contemplation. Such as in the case of the philosophical questioning

  • ah but it is ...

ah but it is precisely the reason you speak the truth if you value life, for it is the very essence of it. It is only foolish and stupid mistakes, derived from irrationality, that can truly kill a man. The truth may make you bleed for those irrationalities, but it the successful conquerors are known to have an abundance of it are they not?

From your comments, ofcourse allowing for fluctuating discourses between us, we should agree that socrates should have been punished by death after all?

  • Such a strategy ...

Such a strategy would surely represent, albeit in a different form, the mechanical thinking behind the shortcomming of our hero, socrates, would it not? With the romans deciding his truth corrupt; a worthy reason for not valuing a fellow humans life?

Wishes and whims are not facts, nor are they means to achieve them. We are free to evade the act of thinking, but we are not free to evade it's consequences!

  • Ah so there is the ...

Ah so there is the question!

Are we to live in ignorance and experience eternal bliss or is one to face blinding light of the sun and conquer their damnation?

The thing to realize, is that reality, truth, does not give a damn about your or how you feel and that any 'good' philosopher who would act as a vessel for truth should not care either.

I am aware that I do not fully understand your comments but I cannot agree that truth is subjective in most anyway as it particularly goes against every scientific doctrine I have ever had the privilege of coming into contact with

  • You have ...

You have misinterpereted what I first said. I am not of the opinion that truth is destructive, corrupt or untrustworthy - rather subjective; subservient to the individual in question, rather than something an individual can (and should) acquire, by any means.

  • I may even go so ...

I may even go so far as to say that wisdom is a hardened kind of truth. A truth represented in the most strict, dedicated, and worthy kind of man in subservience to the absolute. Where one adheres ultimately to the highest ideals and never faulters to the realm of believe and speculation, realms of error, fault, and imperfection

    By oathniel [Affiliate User] 1202472499
  • Indeed I would ...

Indeed I would agree and though I do not know the totality of what it means to be wise or the nature of it I would say it is a very elusive and perhaps even indirect sort of power that is only understood and realized through the most abstract.

And thereby we have our answer, Socrates has said he is wise only insofar as that what he does not know, he does not pretend to know.

For further inquiry Wikipedia has some very good information relating to the Ancient Greek Concept of Hubris

  • "There is none ...

"There is none wiser than Socrates".

I argue; apart from the one worthy of labelling him "the wisest" surely, as socrates validity as a wise man must rely upon absolute evidence, and concrete knowledge?

    By gav0r [Affiliate User] 1202472105
  • It's obvious, and ...

It's obvious, and therefor I do not really need to state that all of your arguments are based around the concept of truth as highly relative.

I have only one question, if the truth by it's very definition, meaning, and own explanation is absolute, open, honest, and pure, how can you even begin to claim that it is relative, deceiving, closed, illusory, and corrupted?

Your definition and view on life is flawed. Remember what orwell said? Freedom is the ability to say 2+2=4 !

  • "I know your idea ...

"I know your idea of me: you think I'm just a poor unfortunate, and I shouldn't wonder if you're right. But then I dont THINK that you're unfortunate - I know you are." -- Plato

yes plato, just as socrates accusers knew that he deserved to die. Please prove me wrong in saying that the answers arnt in the truth, but being tolerant when it comes to other peoples truths.
