  • OMG! I can not ...

OMG! I can not believe someone actually called you open minded. 'Cuz to me you sound very closed and intolerant, i don't want to start a discussion, but please be cool. I mean i don't get the point of your comment, is it to offend M.Kwan or her skating, or to downgrade her work? You know she's the best ever, and that won't change for a while. Besides, all those skaters you mentioned only could beat Kwan, whe she failed. But if Kwan had skated perfect all this times, they wouldn't have had a change

  • Well, the arrogant ...

Well, the arrogant Kwan thought that all she had to do was show up, smile pretty, and tiptoe about the ice and then accept her Gold medal..thought she had it in the bag...Tara had a blast, and took home the GOLD!!! Sure wiped the smirk off Kwan's face!!

  • Uh, it had nothing ...

Uh, it had nothing to do with Tara just having a blast. Tara herself said she felt everyone forgot about her after what Michelle did at nationals. It took off the pressure and she said she wanted to show them all, as the media already coronated Michelle the champion. And even you could tell she was joking. It's obvious she was very sad but trying to add some humor to try and hold back the tears. I give it to you, you have incredible stamina to keep this up all the time. I'll leave you to it.

  • What parent doesn't ...

What parent doesn't sacrifice for their kids??? And no where on this forum did I say anything about Michelle other than to see her here and later on was a true example of what happens to kids when they aren't allowed to be kids..Tara Lipinski had a blast in Nagano and won the Gold..Michelle's program was beautiful but timid..she simply HAD to win..Tara just went for broke and won the Gold..'I hope you still love me'???? This came from Michelle to her family..make us proud..we sacrificed for you!

  • Wow, nothing is too ...

Wow, nothing is too far out of reach for you when it comes to Michelle Kwan, is it? If you'll remember, both Michelle & Karen were skating. Karen competed alongside Michelle until 97' when she decided to quit skating and go to college. When they wre younger Danny Kwan offered them $50 a week to quit skating because paying them that much a week would cost less than all the skating expenses. They both declined. They wanted to skate. Danny Kwan and his wife sacrificed alot for all 3 of their kids.

  • I didn't mean ...

I didn't mean anything I said in this forum to be a slam against anyone..I watched the young girl who had such promise and fun morph into a timid tentative skater for fear of losing..always making excuses when she didn't win..but she did most of the time becasue she became media hype and started to believe it..became arrogant and a diva. Here, she's a kid and a darn cute one at that:) So please, don't think I am slamming a little girl for heaven's sake. As hjnutjob says: Peace:)

  • "What chance did ...

"What chance did anyone else have?"

Well , ask Tara Lipinski, or Sarah Hughes, or Maria Butyrskaya, or Carolina Kostner, or Shizuka Arakawa, or Sasha Cohen, or Irina Slutskaya...They all beat Kwan.

Also, geeze, this should be for fun, don't lose contact with reality over this.Life is complicated enough without getting all freaked out over famous people you don't even know.
    Peace.

  • So, do you slam ...

So, do you slam every athlete if they do not have the approach to a competition the way you'd like them too?

It's just as Carol said in this clip, when you are older the pressure is indeed much more. Not to mention that the expectations after nationals were astronomical! Every competitior wants to win and with age you become more aware. With youth, the great thing is that you do not overanalyze and scrutinize every little thing nearly as much.

  • Well, you got that ...

Well, you got that right..she is very wealthy and and every chance she gets she has her face and name in the press..Michelle does NOTHING that doesn't reward her with the attention she so craves. She is however not an Olympic Champion and that is what her life's dream was...nothing will ever take the place of that or fill that empty place in her heart. Kwan eclipsed everyone..sure...she was held up so many times and given so many 6s..what chance did anyone else have. But FAILED TO REACH THE TOP!

  • Well, you're ...

Well, you're certainly entitled to your opinion.Sometimes when someone is so talented and beloved they tend to eclipse everyone all around them, even those who achieve great things..such was the magic with Kwan. That can be difficult to take (even for fans of the others.)I mean, don't feel too bad for Michelle Kwan, if in fact her childhood was ruined and her father did use her then I assure you ...she is weeping and crying all the way to the bank (and photoshoot, and state dinner, etc.)

  • The best way to go ...

The best way to go into a competition is relaxed and with a sense of normalcy. Normal for kwan was to isolate herself in a hotel with family and do homework in her downtime. You don't tinker with the plan at that time. Her goal was to win and her plan was correct. She skated cleanly in 98 and fell on one jump in 02. Her parents are amazing too...imagine the sacrafice to make all your kids dreams come true. He wanted her to win the gold. He helped make her a star and multimillionaire. Go Danny!!

  • I wonder who wanted ...

I wonder who wanted the Gold medal more..Danny or Michelle? She was far too mature at 17 and skated like she was scared to lose her top spot...which she did. I think Danny lived through Michelle and that is a great burden for anyone to bear. Go in for the kill...compete yes, but isn't that a bit over the top? And you saw how it turned out. Danny wanted to use his daughter and did and I think Michelle knows it..what a devasting robbery of a childhood..and years of being expected to make us proud!
