Interesting explanation of all the components of traditional women's attire in the African Zulu Tribe.
UPDATE: an astute reader added this:
This is tribal dress clothing for Ndebele women not Zulu! The Ndebele are part of the larger Nguni ethnic group, which include Zulu,Xhosa,Swazi and Ndebele.

"wild beast known as 'imbhuduma.'"
And see the non-Wikipedia links (the Wikipedia page has been edited to remove this), for an interesting story about Ndebele history. It reminds me of a Biblical story (in Genesis 27).
Hey i just saw what you stated online on wikipedia so you most likely have the correct version :).. cheers

By zimempress [Affiliate User] 1210196457 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveThe version that i heard is that the Ndebele of Zimbabwe are actually Zulus who broke away from Shaka under Mzilikazi. These Zulus moved into the land of the South African Ndebele, specifically the Manala branch. In order to make it harder for Shaka to find them they adopted the name of the Ndebele. Mzilikazi then had all the Ndebele men killed, and took their women north to set up camp in Zimbabwe.
By bengtang [Affiliate User] 1210195381 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveActually they are the same tribe but as they moved north running form Shaka they split into groups and as a result some ended up in Zimbabwe due to historical factors such as mingling with other tribes the Ndebeles in Zimbabwe did not manage to keep most of those original traditions due to other tribes influences but they do have the same ancestors

By ProudBlackMan14 [Affiliate User] 1198900538 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveThe Ndebeles were tribe formed when Mzilikazi(Shakas chief general) broke off from the Zulus they must have broke of with the culture.
