Kenyans have been urged to maintain peace and shun leaders who spread hatred among them to avoid instances similar to those experienced after the year 2007 elections. Mathira MP Ephraim Maina who spoke in Nyeri after attending prayers by Muslims to mark the end of the holy month of Ramadhan said Christians and Muslims in the country should unite and avoid being divided along their religions. Maina urged church leaders to pray for the country to ensure there is peace in the forthcoming elections. Muslim leader Uled Majid said Kenyans from all walks of life had the obligation of ensuring peaceful elections are held during the forthcoming general election. Yesterday, Sunday 19th August, Muslim leaders urged the Muslim community to love one another and help the less fortunate in the society. The Chief Kadhi advised the faithful not to celebrate in ways that go against the principles of Islam. Chief Kadhi Ahmed Muhdhar Khitamy, former Chief Kadhi Hamad Kassim and Shariff Nassir Foundation chairman Abdulswamad Nassir, called on the government to beef up security as the country prepares for general election.
