      Ninjas were Drs.Samurai,farmers and whatever position in everyday life.They were like masons,a secret society that (according to the clan they were a member of,such as Iga or koga) held strict values according to their beliefs,no matter what the current Shogon's were,and was for hire to anyone who shared their beliefs.Ronin were samurai with no master,or thugs with no values for hire.which originated from the vagabonds of China when china ruled Japan.Most Ninja (even today in modern Japan)were considered pagans,that have no human leaders,but worship the earth and nature.what made them feared was the fact that they had no rules of combat and anything was game from playing on the fears of the enemy (mysticism)to poisons and unorthodox fighting techniques.(the end justifies the means)kinda like the early American settlers against the red coats.I could go on & on about this as I was raised in Okinawa and Japan as a wee-ladd and was fortunate to be privy to this art.A little more research would reveal this to all that seek the truth.

    Effectively, yes. The reason why the ninja are considered elite though was because they hadn't taken the same oath as the samurai- they were allowed to assasinate and kill unarmed and defenceless people. Other than that they used the 'death punch' and nerve strikes very accuratly to kill people. They were also allowed to use shrulkin.

    no no no. Ninja ARE outcast samurai. They are those who couldnt cut it (no pun intended) in feudal japan. Im sure villagers did too tho. Yes, they did go to the mountains. They also used gun powder and other little tricks to gain the illusion of an "other-wordly" appearence. They had no honor, they had no dignity, they were cowards. Samurai Forever.
