Same here, but my guitar teacher taught me some stuff about blues, and it really helped my playing.

Dumbass noob comment! Frank is a Jazz/Fusion guitarist! He doesn't pretend to be a blues man! What he's saying is that young guitarists should learn from the blues because there are a lot of blues techniques that you can use to spice up your playing, whatever your style may be!

I am just now understanding blues becuase I was all into metal and rock like underoath and as blood runs black...Blues is tough stuff man.but fun. So thanks for posting!

Blues foundation is very important indeed.With a solid blues foundation you can then branch out into rock or jazz,both of which can branch out in numerous different directions.If you want to be a versatile player then start with the blues. Music needs to be heard as well as expressed in more than just one genre.And bring back decent singing.God,where did that go?

O.K. I just found out about this dude... I stumbled across this video by accident and them remembered Carvin made a preamp for him. Hey, I am just an old Metal head. However, I dig this playing and been wanting to learn to play like this. Does anyone know how he gets this tone? This is the tone that has been in my head for many years.

Frank Gambale sad and I always told to friends. It is incredible how nowadays a lot of young guitarrists (students) don´t know how to play bends and vibratos... They just play a lot of notes and in the end a bend totaly out of tone... stop in a note with no vibrato... No matther how fast you can play if you can´t do a vibrato or bend properly you will always sound just like a beginner...

I think think Frank is correct. Frank is one the biggest names in Shred and the leading authority when it comes to sweep picking. Learning blues or at least jamming with some blues, will make you a better lead guitarist end of story. I can guarantee Frank can out shred/sweep as well as out play Herman Lee or any other young shredder in these modern bands with out any trouble. So, what harm will it do your playing if he suggests you should learn a little blues on the side?

I wish people would just watch the video and learn instead of being blinded by the details that don't really matter. If any of you claim to have better phrasing or play blues better or are better musicians than frank, congratulations.

But please, keep it to yourself, and let everyone else learn without you shitting on his attempt at trying to help younger players to learn how to be musicians.

I dont think that he was criticising younger guitar-players. In my opinion he was trying to give an advise on how to improve your playing. Theres no need to feel offended. And noone should disrespect other players because they dont make music the way you like it thats just silly. You are "missing the point entirely".

i dont need to go to a school to learn music. school F**ks people up and in the end hinders creativity. i go it alone. just because one does not liek an artist does not make them and idiot. sometimes hte more you know about music is actually what makes u not liek a certain artist. either way. apparently im a young S**t so you shouldnt listen to me o great enlightened master.
