In March 2003 we visited Ghana, Africa to deliver medical supplies to a clinic near Accra and to Sanzule Refugee Camp. We were on a humanitarian mission with the "Black River Project".
In Ghana both boys and girls cut their hair when they go to public school - you can disagree with that, but it's just part of the uniform and likely comes from British influences during colonization. All children also wear uniforms to school.

I loved the loom of the weaver! But with no money for materials, that is rough. I can't imagine that I would have the resourcefulness to reuse fishing line and dry grass to make musical instruments and jewelry, or dandelion for medicine! And they have cute little rats and monkeys as pets! That is the same kind of rat I raise - British!!
