PERSONAL DEFENCE SEMINAR - Minimum Force-Maximum Effect
The Seminar was hosted by Instructor Marco Banfi of the (Vietnamese Martial Arts) Lao Long Dao - Garbagnate, Milan Branch in Italy, organized by the Italian Training Group. It was held in the morning of 2nd February 2008, from 10 am t0 12.30pm.
I would like to convey my appreciation to Instructor Marco Banfi http://www.fighterarts.net (1st and foremost for being a good friend and Italian translator) and Lao Long Dao for thier openess to organize a Personal Self Defence course featuring Silat Suffian Bela Diri. To the Banfi family and friends for making me feel at home on my visit in Milan. To Carlo Andreis (my brother) for his organizational skills, Christian Alfano (a great person), Manuel Merlin and everyone that helped me in this seminar and thier patience in accepting what I have to taught. And to the Garbagnate Community Council for thier support. My apologies if I miss anyone or mistakes are made in any spelling, please contact me to correct it.
This workshop like my other events aims primarily to raise the curiosity and awareness among people from different nationalities about the martial heritage and culture of Brunei Darussalam in general.

SEMINAR THEME
The seminar started with a small introduction by Instructor Marco Banfi. At 1st the seminar was suppose to be a self defence seminar for women, catering for those who are not athletic, not having the strength and time to train regularly due to the busy schedule of being a mother and taking care of the family. But as the morning goes by, 1/3 of the attendance was men. To make sure that no one is disappointed with the seminar, the theme was changed a bit to suit the general attendance while still keeping within the context of "minimum force-maximum effect".
Around 30+ individuals attended. The age of participants attending was between 17 to 60 years old. To make sure that everyone who attended could benefit from the seminar. It was kept non-strenuous.
The skills taught started with release from grabs and instructing the important principles behind them.
NERVE POINT CONSTRICTION
A major part of the seminar covered "ganggam urat" (nerve point constriction) found in SSBD. This is one of the most painful and effective method found in SSBD without the need of strength. The skills were instructed under different situations.
Distancing, footwork, avoidance and awareness were also addressed and taught.

nerve point adalah jurus rahasia silat, boleh diajar ke orang luar? bagaimana tradisi silat? is it ok?
Ironically - some of the pressure points are also exploited in a healing capacity...
Or at the very least, some of the areas they're going for look very similar to some of the points targeted in Shiatsu massage and other relaxation methods.
GREAT!
By silatyogi [Affiliate User] 1206508775 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveI would like to just remind that there are many important differences between Krav Maga and Commando Krav Maga. About the taste of elderly people... Everybody has a different taste so everybody will prefer something else.
By NakedSteak [Affiliate User] 1206162048 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveI participated in one of his self defence seminars. Guru Maul teaches you the details and strategies of how to make the pressure points work instantly. Everyone including a group of women aged between 45 to 60 who attended was surprized with the effictiveness of this techniques. Everyone knows its not easy to have elderly women attend any self defence class, let alone have them wanting to attend another one - Guru Maul surely did. Krav maga movements dont tanslate well for elderly ppl.
By BroodCast [Affiliate User] 1205763696 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removeyou guys should also consider Commando Krav Maga if you wanna learn self defense, cuzz the pressure point cannot be mastered that easily, but you guys can master krav maga in less than a year

By dane5738 [Affiliate User] 1205281507 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveHello Gwedocat,
A fellow Silat instructor here. If I could be so honored to answer that, some Silat schools do teach nerve point manipulation, but it is totally different from the more famous kyusho concept. The Silat pressure point is based on the body's nerve endings and their specific reactions to pain. I hope that helped.
oh man thats swesome those guys looked like they were in pain. im looking to get into kuntao silat. do they teach nerve points?
