Yep, everything you see here on the 40D is possible with the 450D / XSi. As for the T-mount adapter, just visit or search for a telescope shop!

  • don't get me wrong, ...

don't get me wrong, i understand how live view works as i've done filter conversions in the past to cameras that use an EVF as opposed to an optical viewfinder. (as you may already know, they're loosely based around the same "sensor seeing" concept.

i was asking more-so to see if 'deep red' was as visible from the focal length you were using.

  • I agree, Live View ...

I agree, Live View is invaluable if you know where to use it! I haven't tried a modifed astro body, but it should work fine, as Live View on the 40D simply shows what the sensor's 'seeing'. We've got a good technical section on the Cameralabs forum if you'd like to learn more about astrophotography...

  • i must say, ...

i must say, excellent utilization of the live view function on the 40D. it is far too often i hear AF-point reliant users claim their new 40D's live view function is simply "not usable."

astrophotography will be my final frontier as far as specialty fields are concerned. with that being said, i have one question:

have you implemented this approach to astrophotography with a 40D that has had it's sensor filters swapped for greatly improved spectral transmission yet? [HM to ACF-x]

    curious...

  • If you can get the ...

If you can get the right T-mount adapter, you can mount any DSLR to a telescope - including a Nikon. The magnification depends on the telescope. If you've any more Qs, we can answer in more detail in the technical section of the Cameralabs forum.

Would love to see a post of your canary wharf photo in the Cameralabs forums - perhaps in the architecture section... As for the moon, it's much brighter than you'd think - even at f11, you should be able to photograph it at between 1/15 and 1/60 at 100 ISO...

There's some people on the Cameralabs forums with the same lens doing some great work -check it out! Be great to see what you get with the Bigma and a 2x converter on the moon, but remember it'll move quite quickly across the frame, so use a tripod and a shutter of at least 1/30, maybe 1/60.

I have a 50 - 500mm sigma lens (aka Bigma) and a 2 x converter. this gives me marginally less magnification than the telescopoe in this tutorial.

fantastic and inspiring video .. cant wait to try and get the same result with my 40D!! Thank you
