09.19.07 - This was by far the biggest disaster on Wheel of Fortune in recent history. It cost "Becki" $33,000+ in cash, plus a ~$6K trip. Pay attention.
The biggest wheel of fortune disaster was probably the "thrill of victory, agony of defeat" puzzle. Something like $60K was lost back in the 80's? http://youtube.com/watch?v=G9ipzzFQhYQ
EsotericDesi, the board said "Beach", but unfortunately she said "Beaches" instead of "Beach" :(

By EsotericDesi [Affiliate User] 1205388330 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveShe can read, but she was nervous. Put you in front of millions of people, put $33,000 on the line, see how calm and cool you are. Jerk.
By Lergajerga [Affiliate User] 1205029088 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveThat does S**k but she didn't say the puzzle as it is shown up there. I remember that did that hurt. But those are the rules.
By tomgene1976 [Affiliate User] 1204708296 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveAh, this goes down as a bad case of nerves, not in the category of really stupid contestants.
By tucsonia [Affiliate User] 1204683984 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removeshe deserved to lose. she can't read.
By dankilleen [Affiliate User] 1204565460 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveWhy start my own, when this one is so good? I don't dislike all of the rules of Wheel of Fortune, Grouchy. I just dislike this one. But you do raise a good point. She didn't solve it totally, though I would argue that saying the word counts as filling in that blank. The only part she got wrong was the part she already solved.
By kihadat [Affiliate User] 1204562471 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveYou're forgetting she DIDN'T solve the puzzle "100%". She had 1 letter left (M), which the next contestant then guessed. You don't like the rules, go start your own game show.

By VeryBoring [Affiliate User] 1204523729 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removekihadat, of course the ideal game for the same contestant with the first spin to fill in all (or most) letters, and then solve it correctly--which is quite common I believe. Not to mention how that way, the contestant looks like he / she has the puzzle all to himself / herself LOL. The only problem is that the "Bankrupt" and "Lose a turn" parts on the wheel sometimes get in the way LOL. But then at least if that does happen, someone else will have the chance to solve (adding letters or not)
By DOB1973 [Affiliate User] 1204338796 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveWell, I agree that there would be a revolt given the format. You would have to eliminate the suspense surrounding the person yelling out the answer in order for people to accept the completion of the puzzle as the "solution." Instead of the person having to say the answer, maybe Vanna should say the answer (it always bothered me that she never said anything). Or no one says the answer (after all, we can all read) unless they want to solve the puzzle before filling in all the letters.
By kihadat [Affiliate User] 1204337765 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveAlso, it doesn't matter which contestant(s) "built up the puzzle"--what really counts is the contestant who reads it out loud. The contestant who is the first one to say the correct puzzle word for word is the winner--even if it was actually another contestant who filled in all the letters

By DOB1973 [Affiliate User] 1204337334 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removekihadat, I will say that I do feel bad about what happened, but the thing is that US game shows are famous for their "You snooze, you lose" attitude and mentality. Besides, if she actually was rewarded, imagine how there would be quire a revolt, which may result in other contestants saying for example "Buttery popcorn" when the puzzle was actually "Buttered popcorn" instead--then expecting the reward because "Well, you if you gave the prize to the Beaches lady, so that means I can a prize too"
