Richard Feynman
Take the world from another point of view (4/4)
Switch the word "unbiased" with "uninformed" and I agree. Because once you understand people you begin to see why they appear to be the way they do. That's also why humans are "biased" towards their family members and friends; they know and understand them.
In the end I think Feynman, lost in his own world, was a little insensitive. But I believe that was because most of the time his curiosity attracted him more towards other things than how people around him feel. An unconscious selfishness...
"If you give me the right man, in any field, I can talk to him. I know what the condition is: that he did whatever he did as far as he can go. That he studied every aspect of it as far as - he has stretched himself to the end. He's not a dilettante in any way. So he thought deep, as far as he can go, and therefore he's up against mysteries all the way around the edge. And awe. And we can talk about mystery and awe. That's what we have in common."
I want this quote as a tattoo!
He jumps in and interrupts out of passion, not arrogance. He has to get it out for fear of losing the single thought in amongst all those insanely brilliant thoughts. Would loved to have heard one of his lectures live!!

By Kaatni [Affiliate User] 1218900803 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveAs great a man as Feynman was, if you met him like you would any other guy in an unbaised way, he would likely come off as real pushy, arrogant, know-it-all. Maybe he has cause to be arrogant for all he's done. anyways I expect responses to be negative because I "made fun" of people's hero, but come on. I admire him for the same reasons as everyone else, but I try not to put these people on pedestals. I try to remember that there were human too and humans are annoying and pushy sometimes
By etheangel2220 [Affiliate User] 1218615020 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removewow he changed his point of view on a dime, he's not afraid of contradicting himself. This shows a man who has access to his imagination.

By ndjarnag [Affiliate User] 1215296463 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveAbsolutely, but I still appreciate the facial expression by Feynman when he realizes that his interviewer is an ignoramus.
By EGarrett01 [Affiliate User] 1214874552 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveThat eruption from Feynman about how a man has done something as far as he can go is without a doubt the inspiration that I get from Feynman. A man who has dedicated his life to his work. Damn, I'd love to have a beer with him.
By NoseBleedrummer [Affiliate User] 1214874162 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveEGarrett01, if he didn't ask that question Feynman wouldn't have gone so far to say that he actually does agree with "some men" that aren't scientists.
As well as give us such a wonderful quote of how a man that he connects with is the type that dedicates himself to his work to the farthest reach. All if it wasn't for that question we might have never gotten that from him.
2:56...watch Feynman's face. That's the moment you realize that not only is the person asking you a completely ignorant question, but they haven't paid the slightest bit of attention to the answers you've been giving them. I know it well.
