Maybe its because he knew he lost or something. He wouldn't give in after trying that hard. Or Blooaydude can be right, he maybe could've been tired. Either way, ask the people who made the anime.

Yeah I know, but why should he fight on a lost battle? And even a guy like him, seems to have a bit of honor, just try and imagine being in hes place. I would give up as well ya know, even with hes personality. It was a loosing battle, that is just my opinion... but I would like to ask the ones who made the anime for a clear answer =]

Well... he had used hes most powerful attack, and by the fact that Ichigo didn't dodge the attack (the attack was rather easy to dodge, Ichogo wouldn't have needed to cut it... weird habit of cutting) perhaps he couldn't make it for a dodge. And then if he could, he was left quite weakened from the attack he had just used... or that he should be in theory... who knows, just a thought
