Here is another teaser from our upcoming DVD "Martial Arts in Norway". This is a demo from Sunyata Aikido in Norway. We hope you enjoy this one! For more information about our DVD, visit our website at http://www.kampsportinorge.com (in Norwegian language).
IT takes a long time to master, and it's more of a way of life / philosophy than anything else.
But it's a very destructive martial art. It's for life and death situations. It's specifically tailors to defend against an attacker who has a weapon such as a knife or sword. The training videos show people being thrown around, and it might look silly - but it's the only way to safely train when you are putting that much force into someone's arm/hand/etc.
Someone who isn't expecting it will try to resist or fight the movement and that's when you get a broken arm or dislocated shoulder.
It's a very defensive art. There are many practical parts to it, and several of the techniques you can't really use in something like an MMA match because they are designed to maim or kill. Eye gouging, small joint dislocation or breakage, use of weapons and such are all parts of Aikido.
You don't see much Aikido in things like the UFC for that very reason - it's a way of life first, and second it's really life and death sort of stuff - much like Krav Magat it's all about wartime, kill the other guy or he kills you sort of situations.
Can someone tell me the name of the background song?

Also it show's that you dont need to punch to defend yourself.
He would have heard of it, but I doubt that he could execute a single technique...

By DynastyLuminous45 [Affiliate User] 1191503702 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removei've practiced aikido for 3 weeks now, and believe me it's not as simple as it looks like, you have to practice over and over until it becomes a reflex, and that takes a long while, mostly 1 year
By DynastyLuminous45 [Affiliate User] 1191496688 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveYou are right.
Aikido derives mainly from the martial art of Daitō-ryū Aiki-jūjutsu, but began to diverge from it in the late 1920s, partly due to Ueshiba's involvement with the Ōmoto-kyō religion. Aikido is found all over the world in a number of styles, with a broad range of interpretation and emphasis. However, they all share techniques learned from Ueshiba and a caring for the well-being of the attacker.
I think if you believe this Martial art is about winning fights then you are not on the right track in the first place.

By PimpDip [Affiliate User] 1190879233 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveIts nothing to do with 'chi' power, its to do with body mechanics. An MMA fighter would probably do better via points in a tourney but wouldn't easily defeat a top Aikido exponant in an out an out. Aikido utilises your opponants motion against you. The more power you put into a punch the more damage the Aikido opponant can do to you in return. Jujitsu is dervied from Aikido and we all know how well the Gracey brothers have done.
By Jez1289 [Affiliate User] 1190854002 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removeyes but an MMA fighter could already know aikido along with several other types of martial arts...
