Wanted to make my Coat Hanger HDTV Antenna (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EWQhlmJTMzw ) able to pick up VHF. By using the guts if my previous antenna (RCA ANT585 Amplified uhf/vhf hdtv antenna)
and attaching them methodically to the original 'coat hanger HDTV antenna' i was able to make VHF/UHF happen. this is a vid my working antenna. Now i can watch PBS, which in my city is a VHF channel.
i know i didn't explain this very good. sorry. i might make a more in depth video if people want.
thanks.. very kool

By evolvehomemedia [Affiliate User] 1232267061 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveI made the coat hanger yesterday.
What I want to try is adding two wires, one on each side of its output before the balum, each about 2.5 feet long. Basically connecting a half wave dipole.
I'll try with aligator clips first.
Spread out horizontally.
Worth a try
sell me a few of your homemade uhf vhf ant. mail to me, post let me know
By Missdanc3r93 [Affiliate User] 1231339912 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removeand every channel has a different frequency and usually the higher the frequency the harder it is to catch it
By wow1022 [Affiliate User] 1230534743 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removeyou gotta realize the frequencies
uhf is 300mhz to 3ghz and vhf is 30mhz to 300mhz
also-
vhf antenna tend to have very large elements compared to uhf
google up images of vhf and uhf antenna and look at the size differences
Excellent post! This is a most innovative upgrade and I commend and thank you for your post. You explained it very well. I will use copper. Do you have any estimate as to how far away from a transmission tower the signals are good for with this antenna (VHF or UHF)? Does anyone else have estimates?
By callgeo [Affiliate User] 1229707333 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveIs there anyway to get those insides another way? because i have no antenna now, but just bought my HDTV tv. SO i am looking for my First antenna. Then saw these videos.
So can i buy what you added? or i have to buy an antenna to get that part?
When you do please shine more light. The video is way too dark!
Also please show if there is reason to get a 20 dollar VHF antenna to hack rather than a 5 dollar one.
Thanks for the video.
DTV is a weird thing. Most of the time it is either a "Works" or "Nope" situation. In contrast to the days where even strong signals were influenced by stuff happening nearby.
This has been a nice video but frankly it seems more like a "Look what I did!" video rather than explaining exactly how the build went.
I request it redone because it is so important. People are flocking to videos like yours to find out about VHF reception.
MORE LIGHT!
I would think it would be better to use copper wire because it's a better conductor rather than coat hanger wire or aluminum
By EltonForever [Affiliate User] 1228877847 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveId like a more in depth explanation as well. Also-Is there a way to use the guts of the lesser expensive plain purchased non hdtv indoor vhf/uhf antennas to do this?
By shycountrymiss [Affiliate User] 1228761221 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removei am planning to make a more in depth vid in the next couple days. you will need the insides of your old vhf/uhf antenna.
