homie vista S**ks all the way haha... a bugfucked program i will never clean my ass with vista. ur a joke microsoft is a lobbyistic moneyloving firm, they only want our money. we have so much problems with games drivers satas but it seems that ubuntu finally works with everything; ur post looks lika joke, ur a real noobbrother :D when u can handle ur computer with vista,then ur the only one; THE ONE ^^

ubuntu is fantastic im using it right now my only criticism is not with the os itself but hardware manufacturers who dont supply a generic linux driver for their products ie printers and scanners however there is hope with ubuntu the latest version already has some generic printer drivers preloaded (i read that even the boss of dell uses ubuntu) i feel certain that linux ubuntu could overtake microsoft in the future ...who wants to pay for something when you can get just as good for free?

Some nice effects there on ubuntu but I wouldnt use ubuntu. Dont really need eye candy and id much rather be able to play my games without fussing around with WINE.

There is no reason to use Beryl considering it has been discontinued for a few months. Use Compiz Fusion (its successor); it comes pre-installed with Ubuntu Gutsy Gibbon.

Beryl was discontinued quite a while back when it was re-merged with Compiz. Compiz Fusion (pre-installed in Ubuntu Gutsy Gibbon) is its successor.

It depends on the hardware you are running on. The fast majority of the "strain" is placed on the GPU as opposed to the CPU so there isn't that much performance loss if you have a decent video card. CF allows for much customization as you can enable/disable almost all of the plugins within it.

Cedega is built up from WINE. It's rather pointless to pay for Cedega when WINE can often do the job just as well (if not better) for free.

If you're really into gaming, get a program called cedega (for Ubuntu) and you should be golden.
For everything else there is an emulator called Wine

Well I am rnning ubuntu. The question is will all those windowing effects slow down ubuntu. I've actually started playing with fluxbox.

Not all windows programs work in wine, that's for sure. Most don't work 100%, but then again, linux is all about free stuff. If you can't handle living without paying for stuff then you're either bound to work software, or you aren't a worthy linux user :)

Hmm. I'll have to play with Beryl I'm new to ubuntu and using compiz now. It look spretty nice with cool windows and partially transparent things, but nothing like this.

Getting wine works takes only about 2 minutes lol.

to get cool effects u need a program called beryl if i spelled it right. I'm dual booting ubuntu and XP, if i can get Wine to work i will use Ubuntu for good
