They would not have bet on any new tech if they felt didn't work. They can't afford another fiasco like in from 1998-2001. The only good thing about this is lets hope Airbus can learn from the A380 fiasco and get it right for the XWB. Cause if they don't.....Let's give you a picture. Because of the bad handling of the A380, it delayed the XWB by at least 3 years. This means the 787 will have a 5 years head start! Airbus can't afford to see the XWB fail!
By StryderK [Affiliate User] 1218519199 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveThe end result + Rising fuel cost + internal mismanagement = disaster of epic proportions! From a 2005 issue of Aviation Week, the total A380 project now need to sell around 500 aircraft or so (rather than the initally predicted 250-300) just to break even! OUCH!
Now Boeing, after the ass kicking they got from the 2001 tanker fiasco, learned from that. Everything they gambled on have been through market research that took all factors to account.
747 as the "queen of the skys" and persue the A380 almost as, as an unnamed "internal source" said, "as a personal ego trip". Evidence does support this. Airbus marketing research showed a need for 550 super jumbos....But it almost seemed they did not take the rising fuel cost, which even a neophyte can smell from a mile away, into account! Its almost they are so focused on the super jumbo, they are doing everything they can to promote it, at any cost!

But the thing is with 787 vs. A380, Boeing got their ass kicked earlier and learned from it. They are betting on a boatful of new tech, but it's a CALCILATED gamble. Airbus with the A380 almost give one a feel of "we are gambling for gamble sake". Internal paper have shown former Airbus CEO, forgot the name, always wanted to replace the

By glenvale2000 [Affiliate User] 1218485562 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveBoeing super jumbo won't be coming for YEARS!!! This time around Boeing won on the fact they bet fuel prices will be the killer and airline prefer cost savings to size and "Wheel and Spoke" service.
787 last time I checked have up to almost 600 orders now...XWB....let's not talk about that shall we? As I've said, XWB should've been THE first priority on Airbus drawing board, not A380. The Internal mess Airbus underwent for it really cost them, so did the rising fuel prices!
no i mean the small plane next to the a380 at one point in the video, some guy said that it was a 777, it is at about 0.24
By malmo66 [Affiliate User] 1218273019 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveIf what you say is true StryderK and not a goddam wild ass guess how is it that Boeing are dusting off their blueprints for their own super jumbo right now - espcially as they sit and watch their vaunted 787 being overtaken by the XWB350. We'll see who is going to be out billions.

By sarcastom [Affiliate User] 1217713939 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveNo Matter what, the A380 will always be the albatross around Airbus neck....All thanks to bad management and ego!
It's not to say the plane its bad or anything...But the real target for Airbus should have been something like the A270 XWB, not a superjumbo that S**ks gas dry, especially in this day and age. Sorry, but Boeing got it right this round. This plane will cost Airbus upwards of several billions in losses....It will never see profit!
lol "its a 737" ............
