Andrea was born with glaucoma and, despite many operations, his parents were told he would eventually lose his sight. This was accelerated by a blow to the eye with a football causing a haemorrhage resulting in the total loss of his sight aged 12

Andrea Bocelli is who he is. His music comes from his heart and soul. The only thing that matters is the "butterfly in his stomach," and the butterfly in the stomach of his listeners. His music is not about facts or the details of his life or his blindness. We need to move beyond all of this. Andrea's music is truly about feeling, knowing, and passion.

He also makes VERY strong espresso!!!

Andrea certainly does not regard it as a handicap! He plays many musical instruments, sails, wind surfs, cycles, horse rides and roller blades - I think he has also tried parachuting! He does much more than many sighted people I know!

Andrea is definitely 100% blind. This is a sad fact, but only for us. He doesn't consider it a handicap, and perhaps that is why one might think he's partially sighted, though he is not. He also had vision when he was young, so doesn't display the normal demeanor of a blind person. He's just a special man with a god-given voice!!

As you rightly say, all that matters is that he is a great singer with a great voice, but we have alway been told he is totally blind. How do you know he can see a little bit?

"One only sees well with the heart, the essential is invisible to the eyes." Andrea sings with his very soul. What does it matter that he cannot see the people he sings to??? He reaches their hearts.......

To clarify...
He loved soccer and athletics that he was able to do well in since he was still able to
decipher light and color from one of his eyes in a foggy haze. Then one day when he
was playing goalie, he was hit in the eye reducing his vision further. The hemorrhaging
calmed down but his vision slowly disappeared completely.

The oppression seized
Andrea: how could he continue to play? His mother suffered like never before and at
first didn't understand his statement that he could see "all and nothing". "All" because
Andrea knew what surrounded him, and "nothing" because he only saw the dark.

That is very true and it certainly hasn't stopped him from doing anything!!! I am going by what Andrea wrote himself in his book
