I think that you do need certifications to handle dangerous chemicals and equipment. Although I strongly disagree that you need certifications to prove your skills. If you need to prove your skills, you can give the employer references to places where you have previously worked, or they can test you, that's it.

In reality, when a company is hiring, the people that get interviewed inform the employer of their experience. The employer then test's the mechanic's skill in speed, knowledge and experience. The employer will be able to tell from the first day of work if the new employee was telling the truth. I mean, you can tell that this ASE is used to make money just by the way they charge you around $60 - 80 per test and then you have to pay again to renew you certifications.

To tell you the truth, this ASE sytem is BS. If you think about it, it's just another gig for a company to make money. The excuse that you have no evidence of your qualifications is stupid. If you work at an office, store, etc., do you need a license to be able to work at Jewel, blockbuster, etc. I know that the automotive field covers a wide field of information and experience, but like any where else, you get taught in the process.

lol i hear that S**t youre absolutely right,most dont even want to talk to you unless you have at least two or three certs.Get all the ASE's folks make these greedy fkuckin shop owners pay you top dollar or even if they dont then u can tell em to go F**k theirself and go work somewhere else and recieve the pay you deserve

ASE is the only bomb you can throw that will get an employers attention!!!
