The first test of a hovercraft I designed and built. It uses a 120 cc 2 stroke engine developing 14 HP (Raket 120 from www.radne.se). The craft weight is only 50 kilos. The side to side movement visible in the video is not an accidental motion, It's me steering left and right (throttle and steering are both on a side-mounted joystick). Thanks to David Lesage for his help. Thanks to Universal Hovercraft (www.hovercraft.com) who introduced me to hovercraft design with their plans (I built a UH11T in 1985).

thats awesome, were you on water and just cruising like a boat? I cant see how you would get any lift on that side with a rip that big......if you were on land Im truly amazed.......unless the rip wasnt right through the whole length and was held together by untorn fibres and only a small amount of air was escaping...

you say that a finger skirt, (also called a segment skirt) lets it keep on going if damaged, however on my hovercraft, well my dads, (14ft long) an 8 foot rip down the length of the bag skirt didnt stop it at all! we didnt even notice until a friend in another craft pointed it out!

yeah its a bag skirt, the other kind is called a finger skirt where there are lots of seperated pockets. The bags are a lot easier and less work to make and fit but the finger skirts allow you to keep going if a section is damaged.
