This video, recorded in November of 2007, on a lake near Fairbanks, shows Katey Walter from University of Alaska at Fairbanks and a research team drilling a hole through lake ice, then lighting the escaping methane. This video was shot by Carla Browning of University Relations at the University of Alaska Fairbanks. More at: http://www.alaska.edu/uaf/cem/ine/walter/videopage.xml
Your video was shown by NOAA at the US government pavilion inside the Bella center on a system called science on a sphere. It was absolutely terrifying and easily the scariest thing I saw the whole week I covered the conference. Methane release may be the beginning of that runaway climate change the real alarmists have been predicting.
I am posting a story about it: Jeffrey Barbee
I Appreciate your video. Please watch this, free film online : Methane and Water.
By nc9 1233638421Haha.
Blame the cows.
The sad thing is that if the tundra melts due to global warning an unfathomable amount of methane could be released into the atmosphere. We're probably pretty close to the point of no return on this already.

By peles73 [Affiliate User] 1229141066That's really cool. I just saw a BBC series where they showed this phenomenon in Siberia. It's weird seeing that mixture... fire and ice. Maybe they could capture the methane as a fuel.
