Sport pilot flies the Zenair CH701 with a Jabiru 2200 powerplant, as supplied by US Jabiru.
This is an air-cooled, direct-drive, 4-cylinder engine. Weight and performance are great!

I love the idea of the jabiru engine in this plane. I've heard that there are cooling issues since most of the jabs seem to be used in the faster Zenith's...can anyone tell me right or wrong? What about performance? I remember early on when the rotax 582 was the engine of choice for a few 701's. Thanks for any advice!

  • You'll see a big ...

You'll see a big difference in acceleration with the Rotax 100 HP. the Jabiru 2200 doesn't have much of a climb rate either, see the similar video's listed here. The roc shows 500-600 feet a minute, and it didn't appear to be all that hot of a day, and they were not all that high up either. Personally, I hope Jabiru becomes a viable option to the Rotax though. It's certainly more affordable.

As the video shows, accelleration does not seem to be a problem with a light airplane like the 701.
