This should explain it for you. Watch "Who Killed The Electric Car?" We don't need Hydrogen cars, batteries will work just fine for most people.
Here in holland, we dont burn coals or oil.. we burn gas.. for making electricity. We have the cleanest power plant of whole europe.
On top of that.. it has efficiency of 55%. Want to bet youre car can't do that ?? Dude calculate calculate...
dude.. hydrogen is also made directly from natural gas.

""I want a PLUG-IN HYDRID!!!""
I think you are missing an important fallout of having electric cars. The fact is that electricity has to be generated somewhere and if that is coming from a themal power plant (as is mostly the case) If this is done by burning fossil fuels then you have to succumb to Carnot effeciency and waste a large amount of fuel and cause that much more pollution in the process. Basically if fuel cells are used to say generate power in your house and drive your elecric car i'd say thats the best option

* suspension @ 50k miles = $500.
* motor @ 75k = $400 plus a ratchet set [to do it yourself].
* fuel cell @ 80k = $10,000 with fees for a licensed mechanic to install & inspect.
* suspension & bearings @ 100k = $800.
Total: $27,000. or, enough to buy solar panels for your entire block.
Electric car maintenance:
* motor, @ 75k = $400.
* batteries & bearings @ 100k = $2100.
* suspension @ 100k = $500. (normal)
total: $3000. or, about $2,500 less than petrol cars.
Dilekz is right. The catalysts will have to be replaced every ~80k miles, which has as much platinum in it as a $15,000 wedding ring. And remember, Exxon is building the Hyrdogen plants. You think they govern petroleum too high? Wait until you see the Hydrogen prices. You'll never see the 30-cent-per-gallon proposition.

Features:
- 0-60mph in about 30 seconds.
- Extra heavy only 3000 Kg.
- Stil having to go to the gas station (yes people we have to think forward!! =D =D )
- You have to wait... because fuel cells have a start up time ( S**ks big time if you are already late for work.. )
New* electric car with battery:
-Super fast.
-lighter
-Charge it everywhere you want.
-best efficiency there is...
-ALOT cheaper then fuel cell.
-HAS future...
-Less visits to your garage..
most people in the world hate bush.. and his evil mates.
I hope america will do better now with there new president... good luck!
What about, fuell cell being expensive and also have a limited life span.
I heard there was platinum, copper, silver in it.. etc. Car is heavy...
Windmill--(loss)-->hydrogen--(loss)-->transport--(loss)-->Use in your heavy car.. also alot losses.
In the end... this story of fuelll cells is a big joke. It's propaganda... they LIE to you!!
Are they going to make 1000-hp Hydrogen engines for those truckers, and 12,000-hp engines for those trains and barges to transport all that Hydrogen? nope. Do you have any idea how much Hydrogen a 12,000-hp engine would use? You'd have to use all they Hydrogen you were transporting just to get it where it was going. Go electric. Go solar. Problem solved.
By nonsoundflux [Affiliate User] 1204201848 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveGreat, well when you're trying to tug that 5,000-lb piece of junk up the highway with your hazards on, make sure you remember that when I fly by in my Tesla, I'm getting about 6x more efficiency out of the electricity in my car than the electricity used to make your hydrogen and pull all that weight. :)
By nonsoundflux [Affiliate User] 1204201492 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveWrong, vanepico. The components used in the catalyst in this video are mined for as well, and in similar quantities. However, those Batteries are fully recyclable - unlike the coal they're mining to get enough juice to produce all that Hydrogen you're going to need. FACT: Electric engines are 3x more efficient than Hydrogen engines, no matter what way you swing it.
By nonsoundflux [Affiliate User] 1204201294 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveHoly CRAP! did they forget to mention that this car is going to weigh 4 tons? not to mention the efficiency you're LOSING from this process, the drag from pulling it's own weight, and the fact that you have a GIANT TANK OF COMPRESSED FLAMMABLE GAS behind your seat is completely insane!
By nonsoundflux [Affiliate User] 1204200784 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removeif your gonna get all "oh yes an electric car is brilliant for the world cause you dont fill it with petrol" you are wrong, the elements required to be mined for the very very very high capacity batteries needed for a battery powered car, if they are mined, they ruin everything around them, which is why fuel cells are so so so much better, do es that answer your question?
By vanepico [Affiliate User] 1204121399 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveHydrogen from gasoline is just a MORONS idea on how to keep selling gas, water produces much more than gas ever will, bush idea of using gas for this is only to save his stupid stock, bush S**ks , bush is bad, bush is not about anything but himself, if you believe only hydrogen ceoms from gasoline, your specificaly stupid.

By quaheedus [Affiliate User] 1202939203 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveDid I miss something? Hydrogen has to come from oil?Maybe you mean it will be the oil companies who have the hydrogen fueling stations?The hydrogen will be coming from water, thats why its called H20... one molecule of water has two hydrogen atoms and one oxygen atom.
By quaheedus [Affiliate User] 1202938663 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removehaha i relplied to myself
By pwnzyouall [Affiliate User] 1202806297 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removeok your right about that but if you aplied generator to the breaks of the car then they could fire as you slow and then you wouldent be putting energy in to spwer them youed just use uoir slowing car to turn the generator so you can use that to seperate the hydrogen and oxygen. but you wouldent be able to compleetly seperate all of it but it would be much much more efficent. do you thing that would work?
By pwnzyouall [Affiliate User] 1202806179 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveThat is a nice idea to just keep splitting the water byproduct to form more hydrogen and Oxygen. I hate to be a downer, But I believe that it takes more energy to split it (fission?) than to react together and form the H2O.
By eibomz [Affiliate User] 1202719747 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removelol great video explains to a T exactly what people are like wanting money money money.
these cars could be easily molded to have there own HHO production and then its cells used or nicked for electrical power drive.
them cells would do nicely for my electric bike lol even better replace my generator screw fuel companies we found a better source of self obtainable energy we don't need to pay someone else to do it for us anymore.
