747 Extreme Landing at Kai Tak Airport

When an aircraft has to use the "crab angle" approach, it IS because of crosswinds.

The crosswind on the runway was between 5 and 10 knots so it's not a case of an 'extreme crosswind landing'. The windsock is hardly half way up.

Not sure, but I think that the guy missjudged the final turn (the final for Kai Tak was notoriously difficult for bigger planes), made the turn too shallow, was going to miss the runway and preferred to go for it instead of a go-around. Not the best of pilots if that was the case.

I don't think it was due to crosswind anyway.

You can do so many things in an airplane, that is wat is called a Crosswind landing. It's really easy any pilot can do it, it's kind of the first things you leaern when you start flying.

im sorry, but in my mind. NEVER FLY BABY BLUE AIRPLANES!!!! this is a fine example why! they dont make good landings. but this is just a pilots daughter speaking.

that normal under high wind gust all they have to go is push the rudder pedal, NOT STEER, THATS TO ROLL, NOT YAW. you need to yaw in this situation
