  • Hi. You are right: ...

Hi. You are right: "fifteenth" would be "décimo quinta" in spanish. But we (spaniards) usually talk about la "quince" (fifteen) brigada although this is not correct either in spanish. May be this was confusing to the author and the reason to this "artistic lisense". Anyway, the brave irish volunteers fought in the 15th brigade.

hi At the risk of sounding pedantic - In Spanish, fifth = quinto and fifteenth = décimo quinto - but artistic license is all - which we should perhaps highlight to our spanish listeners

The 16th (Irish) and 36th (Ulster) Divisions fighting alongside in 1916.

One are forgotten, disowned and their memorial defaced; the other were a fundamental factor in the creation of NI.

"Bob Hillier was Church of Ireland Pastor,
From Killarney across the Pyrenees he came,
From Derry came a brave young Christian brother,
Side by side they fought in Spain"

Irish Catholics and Protestants fighting and dying together for a common and just cause in a foreign country. They must have been turning in their graves when they saw what we did to each other at home between 1969 until the early 90s.
