This classic piece of fingerpicking was written by Elizabeth Cotten around 1907. While I was recording this video I realized how totally irrelevant the words are to my life. It's all well and good for Peter, Paul and Mary but I felt pretty silly singing these lyrics. With each verse that I sang I was starting to go "round the bend". I think I'll shut my mouth in future and just play the damn thing.

    mudbuddy54 No worries. I'm just having a bit of fun. I believe when or comes to playing, singing or interpreting music, or any art form, anything goes. I would hate to see a world that was dictated by someone elses rights and wrongs... words I generally avoid like the plague. There would be no incentive for creativity. It's like everyone driving the same model car. When I learn music now I ask myself: How can I change this? I prefer to be myself than be definitively right or wrong.

    mudbuddy54 The lyrics were willfully stolen from Peter, Paul and Mary. I guess that makes them "wrong" too. Naughty Peter, Paul and Mary for leading me up the garden path with their personal interpretation which became a huge hit for them. Sorry about that. Anyway, I'm glad you liked it otherwise.
