    These are amazing photos. I lived in Bell County during that time and remember the devastation of the flood of '77. Many people lost so very much. It made me sad; it makes me sad now to recall such a devastating time. Some folks never recovered from their losses; they lost their homes, possessions and I think, in the end, a lot of them lost their lives from grief. Thanks for sharing the photos and reminding us what can happen when we least expect it.

    my family used to live in Pineville many years back I was not born there but I always herd tales of Pineville ky about the flood and all amazing.,,my mother said Pineville allways made her very sad to think of living there back in the day

    I remember the flood of 1977. I lived in Claiborne County, Tn. The Powell river was no longer a beautiful place where I was Baptised, but a rage of endless fury !

    Wow. I looked for photos of the flood a few months ago and only found a couple. This is the largest amount of photos I have ever seen. I just noticed the A&P that Betty Jo worked at for so long...I had no idea it flooded THAT much of that area!!!
