Actually scratch that, I just checked your profile and you have tons of Aikido videos.
Well enjoy your Aikido, I stand by what I have said. Aikido is not an effective method of combat training.
It teaches a few useful techniques to use against someone who is not attacking you. And that's that. We will both have to disagree.
After re-reading some of your posts i can see that you are clearly messing with me.
haha very funny =P
It is hard to pick up when you see all of the serious posts made by aikido practitioners.
Funny though, you had me going for like 20 posts.
No chance of us agreeing don't worry!!! I'm not implying Aikido is good for combat I'm explicitly screaming it!! Grabs are often used for teaching or demonstrations. However, once you get passed the early kyu grades then you use the principles learned to apply these to punches / kicks / knife / sword / staff attacks. We train in disarming weapons which is why the army likes aikido so much!!
By dooyeweerd [Affiliate User] 1226108103 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveOf course I would recommend it!! Boy is it effective and it's very practical. A lot of hours to learn well? Of course but then so is anything worthwhile. Aikido is proven! This is why it is used in police and army training worldwide!
By dooyeweerd [Affiliate User] 1226107847 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveYou do not train Aikido to become a good fighter.
The limited useful techniques you learn are only good against an opponent who is not attacking, for example when a cop or bouncer grabs someones arms and puts cuffs on him or escorts them out of a bar.
Are you really trying to sell Aikido as practical combat training? If so you are delusional, and irresponsible.
I hope that is not what you are implying.
If not then we agree with each other making this pointless.
Ok back to the point. Are you saying you would recommend someone learn Aikido for effective, practical combat?
This is of course in comparison so proven styles and methods of training.
And that's the problem pal. Even good MMA gyms won't have teachers who are proficient in all the styles they're teaching. Which means you'd be better off with a book!!! I would not trust a biologist to teach me epistemology so why would I trust someone who's done BJJ and Karate [eg] to teach me Judo and Kung Fu??? It's absurd, it leads to bad technique and deluded people.
By dooyeweerd [Affiliate User] 1226107349 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveThink what you will. Since you are impervious to all forms of evidence or logic there's no point continuing with you. One can only reason with someone who has some of their own!! Before we get in the dojo we have a good laugh at the MMA people in there before us practising their silly little punches and kicks which barely tap the pads. These people are not learning anything coherently. Just bits and bobs from NON-SPECIALISTS. I feel sorry for them!
By dooyeweerd [Affiliate User] 1226107058 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveSorry but he does not know what he's talking about. He claims SS is not teaching Aikido which is demonstrably false. You keep repeating yourself like if you say the same crap twenty times over it will become true and, you know what, maybe in your tiny little brain it is. But reality is different. If you ever dare get on a mat with some aikidoka you will learn the truth. Until then you are living in a cyber-dream-world bedroom boy!!
By dooyeweerd [Affiliate User] 1226106790 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveYou must have a point. I have made mine clear. Aikido is not a good style to specialize in. It is one of the least effective, and unrealistic combat training you can train in.
You can read Aikiweb for a detailed description on Aikido and what it is all about.
Anyway, there is no best "style". A good method of training would be to incorporate anything from any training that works like they do at good MMA gyms/dojo's.
Aikido training on its own is one of the least effective in combat.
The guy in that article knows what he is talking about.
Aikido is not a combat style/sport whatever you want to call it.
Practicing Aikido is to preserve a culture and history. It is not to train someone in a practical form of fighting.
The reason why it gets so much criticism from the fighting community is because people try to sell it as something it is not.
Plus the guy in that article discredits himself because he claims that Steven Seagal practises aikijitsu not aikido which is a nonsense. Seagal's dojo in Japan taught aikido not aikijutsu. The writer clearly knows little and what he does he twists to suit his own biased agenda. Not an objectively written article at all I'm afraid. You'll have to do better than that!!!
By dooyeweerd [Affiliate User] 1226104906 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveThis quote I see you don't reference is from "allexperts" where ANYONE who's NOT an 'expert' can blab on about whatever the hell they like and try to sound like an expert. This is not different than treating any form of message board as your authority. Clearly you've never done any serious academic work in your life sado.
